Who did you buy it from? The only dealer locally seems to be Best Buy, and I hear a lot of bad things about their installs.

BestBuy is only as good as the installer working there. Our local one has a good installer now from what I understand, but several years back their guy really did crap work on my Dads vehicle.

I'm having Viper Smart Start installed on the 29th by Dr Dashboard. Its going to be around $600. I like that I can start it from my phone or stock key fob. push button start.
They did say they were going to have to take it to Toyota to have some programming changed on the truck first though. I dont think they did that with my Rav4 when I had it installed a few years ago. smart start too.

So they can program the Toyota fob? I may go that route. I don't want to carry another fob

Yeah, I guess my problem is how to figure out if the guy is any good. There's 4 Best Buy's in the area, I'd like to go to the one with the best tech.

I just had a Viper Model 4205V two way starter installed on my 2016 Sport. Range is great and I love that the remote beeps to let me know if it started or not. That was important to me because I can't see my truck from inside my apartment.

My only issue is that when I open the door the truck turns off and I have to start it again. The installer told me this was due to a security feature in the 2016 firmware that wouldn't allow it to hand off the start to the smart key fob when it entered the vehicle.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Better yet, has anyone found a way around the issue of the truck shutting off when the door opens?

It can't be good for the truck to be turned off and then back on every time I get in to it, so I'd really like to find a solution!

Every remote start I have known irrespective of auto make or model has had this feature... I believe it is the industry standard.

My drone mobile turns off when door is opened. My past tacomas stayed running and you inserted key and turned to on and drive. My guess is they can't get around or override the push button start

My 09 Corolla stayed running unless I touched the shifter with out pushing the brake. normal key
My 13 Rav shut off as soon as I opened the door. Keyless
Assuming my Taco will do the same. Something to do with smartkey.

Gotta love Chrysler in this regard. Their cars will stay running. I had the OEM remote start on my 2013 Accord, it would shut off. It's damn annoying for the vehicle to shut off.

Does installing a after market remote start affect the warranty at all?

@V1 rot8 I asked the dealer before I had mine installed and he said it did not void the warranty, so long as the future warranty issue wasn't a direct result of the remote start system.

Is there / will there be a remote start option for manuals?

Considering there's a clutch cancel button i'm being hopeful... They could have at least made it a push to start.. my 6SP Audi has it, going to be a pain to have to learn to put the key in again lol

Thanks for the come back on that. I got a quote from a place today that said they do a lot of installs for the dealer where I got the truck.
