Dealership is supposed to be emailing over instructions on how to code the OEM key fob with this remote starter module to do it myself.

Had the Dealer install Remote start, cost was 499$ got 100 off.
hit the button 3 times is starts right up, open the door and it shuts down, i don't mind that, i live on a busy street, people walking by at all times of the night.

eeek, you can get the module for $50 bucks install yourself and get your dealership to just code your key fob for you. I mean im sure going your route its now warranteed and all that but i couldnt justify $400 but good for you

I am not handy when it comes to wiring, did not want to mess up the truck, and yes it is covered by the warranty. it is a lot of money but this should be my last new truck,,

I just wanted to share my experience. I ordered factory alarm system for my taco. It was never installed at the factory. So I had the dealer order it. It wasn't available. I ended up shopping around for systems. Ended up getting a full top of the line system from Compustar, the Drone Mobile RSD-3AS ($178) Bundle and the upgraded Pro T11 ($290) remote. Called my dealer and scheduled an installation for $450. I later got a call back and was told there were no warranties on the installation. So I called around and found an authorized Compustar dealer. They told me installation will be $400-500. But here's the kicker, it's lifetime guaranteed for both product and installation. So no brainier, I chose the Compustar dealer. I don't know if other brands are the same but as for Compustar it doesn't matter where you bought it. Just make sure to get it installed by authorized Compustar dealer to get lifetime garauntee.

I went into quality auto sound and asked them if there was a way around having the truck turn off when you open the door. They told me they MIGHT be able to rewire it to only turn off if the brake is pushed before pushing the start button. They would have to get in a check before they knew anything. Has anyone gotten around having the truck turn off when you open the door?

I don't know what model remote start was installed by the dealer but the range is not long, must be line of site.
i guess i should have looked a little more into aftermarket starters.
    Still love the Truck!

Let me know if they figure it out, that is only thing stopping me from getting it on my Tacoma. I have that on the Sequoia and it is annoying as heck!

This should be very straight forward, though might be a bit of work. You simply have to tie in the door switch into the wire monitoring the brake pedal, and probably using a diode to keep the open door from illuminating the brake lights. Even if you need a relay, shouldnt be more than $10 in parts, but it may take and hour or two of labor depending on the alarm and how they installed it.

I've been doing remote start installs since college (around 2000) when I was employed at circuit city, and have continued to install them for friends and family ever since I graduated. For those against using a third party unit over what you can get at the dealer, I'd highly encourage you to reconsider. The direct brand (viper, python, etc.) alarms/remote starts are far superior to anything I've seen offered from a dealer or vehicle OEM, and with the xpresskit DBALL devices they integrate quite a bit easier with the car than in days past. I'm sure to stick one in my impending tacoma (ordered last week) when it arrives. I understand the $700+ price quotes are intimidating, but most of that is labor (you can buy the hardware online for around ~$200). If you're a bit savy with a soldering iron the install is not hard, but it is time consuming. I'll try to document the install on a tacoma next time I do one.
