Somebody asked about a remote start for a manual transmission in an earlier post and that was never answered. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get a remote start for a manual?

It's not difficult to get a remote start for a manual (same parts, just use clutch start cancel). It's difficult to get someone to install a remote start on a manual due to the liability.

Viper does produce a manual starter kit, which makes it foolproof and safe.

Is there any way to get around the fact that when the truck is started remotely and you open the door the truck shuts off that needs to be restarted again ?

I remember a few years ago aftermarket companies had a way around that, but it lead to vehicles being stolen. They could just break your windows and drive off.

But wouldn't the key need to be in the car for them to be able to drive it?

Can anybody on this thread that has a remote start in their car confirm that the car shuts off when the doors physically open not just unlocked, and if that's the case can they put something over the door switch so that when you open the door the truck still thinks the doors closed, and see if they're able to start driving the car without having to restart it
    Thanks in advance

I find it hilarious that people are this concerned about the car shutting off. That extra button push/key turn must be really difficult.

OEM keyfob functionality/not having to carry an additional fob, have to press start after I get in. No brainer here people.

    Not on a push-to-start vehicle.

It's not difficult, it's just extra wear on the starter, you remote start the vehicle then you get in it and it shuts off then you have to start it again. having to start the car twice to drive it once seems kinda dumb

Being a wuss and needing to prestart your car also puts wear on...the engine, the AC system, the lights, the alternator...but that extra push to restart it...puts you over the top?

How does letting your car warm up in the cold make one a wuss?
By the way in any of my other cars that have remote start before I get out the air-conditioner is shut off

unless you live in Antarctica modern cars do not need to "warm up." Remote start is not for the car, its for the occupant.

Well then call me old school, I like to run the car for a few minutes before I get in to get the oil warm and engine lubricated.

Do you have a remote start in your truck?

But you need the key fob in the car to start a vehicle to drive it right?

Yes, after it's shut down from the remote start it'll need the fob in proximity to start up again so you can drive away.

The fob isn't needed after the truck is started which I'd assume is why the remote starts kill the power when the door is opened. If you left the truck running and get out to make a quick store run, anyone could then get in and drive off with it until they either run out of gas or shut the truck off. They could have easily made it where you either needed the fob to be present to put it in gear or to touch the start button with the fob in case of a dead battery but no one has time for logic.

Wuss? Go sit in a car or truck after it's been in a full sun parking lot all day in Atlanta in July. :)

Plus some folks like to make their wives and/or daughters comfortable and happy.

Assuming it was unlocked. As happens all to frequently here. Sometimes with a kid in the back. I get not wanting to hassle with bringing a kid inside for something quick, but figure a way to keep the car running AND THE DOORS LOCKED. Remote start is one such option, and I had that in a previous vehicle -- came in handy when my dogs were riding along and I went in to grab a cold drink.
