The bulb in there now is a 4157nak. I've been searching and can only find a 3157 that some say are compatible and others not.

The 3157 is clear and the 3157NA is amber.

3157 amber (3157na) will fit. The difference is the 4157nak (k for krypton gas filled) is a long life bulb good for about 4000 hours....
3157na will last about 1500 hours at best.
I purchased 3757nak (2000 hour life) for my 12 prerunner from 1000bulbs.com. only difference is the 3757 is a 2.1 amp for the dtrl/flasher filament, same as the 3157nak, and the 4157 is 2.23 amp. So the oem bulb has the most brightness and lasts the longest.
I get my information from www.bulbtown.com.

Were your headlights replaced under the extended warranty ? If not, you might be better off with the lowest amp draw.

Just keep throwin' money at it.
I opted for the LED conversion due to the DRL melting issue. Mine were starting to look a bit melty. That might be a good option if yours haven't been replaced under the warranty yet. The warranty period has expired so those of us without them replaced are kind of SOL.

Re: Clear bulbs; cannot use these in Virginia as this is also the turn signal bulb. Has to be amber on the front (amber or red on rear) .
Re: DTRL LED; I bought leds for the front and they failed in about a year; overheating is still a problem for them. Got about a 50 percent credit and put the regular bulbs back in the front. I used the credit for 2 additional led strips for stoplight/turn signal, attached under the tailgate and powered by the trailer harness. No problem with hyperflash.
I plan to get amber strips for the front, and keeping the stock bulbs, will get additional dtrl/flasher intensity for visibility. Haven't figured out how to mount them to the grill yet.
