Anyone leave a 5th gen 4Runner for a 3rd gen Tacoma?

Agreed the fit and finish is way better compared to the Tacoma. One detail like shutting just the doors and hearing that solid sound on the 4Runner compared to my Tacoma made me a believer.

Yea, very well could be. Clearly most people feel that way. I’ve driven the 4Runner many times, but don’t own one. People who own both probably know better than me haha.

Never owned a blue vehicle, never liked the color on vehicles. Now I own 2... Go figure

    Any predictions going forward?

I have read the 2020 4Runner will have the 3.6-L auto engine. Overseas I think they may be getting diesel and hybrid, not sure about here. Also time for an interior and exterior update. Needs an update to compete with competitors. Maybe more RAV4ish?

Not sure what the 2020 Tacoma has in store except for maybe ironing out some of the transmission issues. Maybe a hybrid powertrain? Doubt much of an exterior makeover.

Rumors I "heard" for the 6th gen 4Runner: 3.5L motor, 8-speed auto or 10-speed auto, still body on frame, 300+ hp 290+ ft-lbs, hybrid/gas setup, 28+ mph highway rating, etc....

I don’t know that there is any truth to it but I was told told it’s possibly heading more towards the looks of the Tacoma or will be discontinued all together which I couldn’t imagine being reality. Yes this person works for Toyota but I have no idea of their actual knowledge

I look at it like this. The Tacoma is perfect for my wants and needs, the 4Runner is great for the needs of my family

I’m honestly not so sure it is. Like others have said. The interior is pretty lackluster and feels out dated. Definitely not nearly as fun to drive either. My 07 Tacoma had icons front and rear, Camburg spindles, and all pro rear leaf packs. Things was fun to drive. The 4Runner has icons front and rear on 33s, and although it gets me from a to b, it’s just not the same.

They both have their ups and downs. I've noticed in the 4Runner, if it's been in driveway, raining all day, and I go to take it out, I'll hit the brakes at the end of my driveway (roughly 90yards long), and it won't stop at all for a good extended range. Never had that issue w/my Tacoma. Not sure what's going on with it, but going to have dealer check it when it's in for its first Tummy Rub.

The only thing I did to my runner so far was upgrade the front struts to Toytec Boss. That was a big improvement over the soft stock shocks.

I like them both. The Tacoma is perfect for my needs. But the 4runner is perfect for hauling family and friends.

My Tacoma (Both my MT, and my 17 AT when I had it) were more fun to drive. They felt a little snappier and fun to rip around town with, and we take my truck vs the T4R on trips due to fuel mileage. the T4R def feels much torqier off the line, but that's it, then it feels like a sluggish pig, granted, a sluggish pig that nothings gonna slow down, but still sluggish, where as the Tacoma puts a smile on my face everytime I slam my foot down.

I believe my T4R Pro has Bilstein Reservois on them? I actually don't remember (now feeling kinda stupid). It does ride a little stiffer than my Tacoma Sport, but feels much better when off road in its natural habitat.

There’s a reason terrosists like Hiluxes. They wouldn’t mount their machine guns on Land Cruisers because that’s just stupid. But at the end of the day I bet every terrorist wouldn’t mind a pampered ride back to their villages in a Cruiser, make them feel like someone important.
