Anyone make seat adapters for Gen1?

    Hi Folks,
I love everything about the 2000-2004 Tacomas except for the myriad seat-related complaints I see online. I'm 6' tall and very prone to problems related to bad car seats on long trips, which is a bit scary because for me the whole point of looking at Gen1 Tacomas is for long-trip overlanding.

From research it appears that the "standard" fix for Gen 1 crappy seats is Gen 3 4Runner seat swaps, which are not a simple bolt-in scenerio. Does anyone know of any enterprising TW member or fab shop who makes and sells adapter brackets / rails for this swap?

Anyone have any other bright ideas for someone who can't DIY this kind of solution?

    Thanks!

You can do what I've seen several people on here do, they get a two inch piece of plate steel and raise the front of the seat. They install it between the seat cushion portion and the seat sliders. Just search for something like that.

Clarifying, they drill a hole on each end of the plate and buy another nut and bolt and install. Make sense?

How much money are you willing to spend?

There are companies that make universal brackets for racing seats. Companies like Recaro make nice racing seats for these trucks too.

They are very pricey though. Except to pay $1,000+

The stock seats are definitely junk, even in the top models. The 3rd gen 4runner seats are a super easy swap, but only the limited trim's leather seats are good, and finding a good set is either rare or expensive, and they're only available in tan.

I had a set of sparco fighters laying around from an abandoned project that I decided to put in my Tacoma. They've been great, sparco actually makes direct fit brackets, as do a few other companies. You still have to get the seats adjusted right through spacer and bolt combos so it's kind of a long process.

You're looking at spending a lot of money that way though. Even after getting a killer deal at 700$ for the pair of seats with sliders I'm in a little over 1000$ total.

Find some friends that can weld and have at it

First thing is decide just what seats you want to replace yours with then build the brackets to make it work.

I am strange I think my seats are just fine then I seldom drive more then 300 or 400 miles a day when using the truck to haul stuff

Look at Corbeau, they make mounts with sliders. You can bolt on their seats, or a variety of others. Get the double latching flavor, much better! Also you can use aluminum bolt spacers or washers on the bolts between seat and bracket to adjust seat pan tilt.

Look for a welder, if not buy seat brackets and drill holes, jb weld and a nut/bolt.

    Hello all,

    My very 1st post!

I wanted to chime in as I just did the seat mod for my 02 a couple of months ago.

1st - I can weld, so this may or may not apply to all.

2nd - I got CL seats for $45, not leather, but far more comfortable than OEM.

So, I cannibalized the brackets from my old seats, cutting the welded rivet. I also cut off the brackets for the new seats so the rail is smooth and ready to weld.

Then I cut out 1”x2” 1/8” thick steel to add to the top of each original bracket. Tack welded the new metal to the bracket in a vice, outside of the truck.

Then I bolted the brackets back into the truck...placed the new seat on the brackets (clamped) and tack welded it in the truck (w/ protection to the carpet).

After that, I seam welded all of the joints with the seat removed. Then I painted any metal that was new or rusty.

Side note: I did one seat at a time to make sure my spacing was dead on or close to the original placement of the seats.

These seats are a little higher, but I felt like I was too low with my old seats and the drivers is a bit lower after 2 months (I'm also 6'2").

Hope this helps and hope this wasn’t already out there.

P.S. I linked my photos as I'm still trying to understand how to add uploaded images (sorry)

Right on, Thank you 1997tacomav6, found these that are sold for my set up- https://corbeau.com/toyota-tacoma-oem-bucket-60-40-95-04-seat-brackets/

@1997tacomav6- the seats pictured in your post above are they these?- https://corbeau.com/baja-xrs/ the black vinyl/cloth. Those in your pictures look super rad. Any spacing or anything like that needed for height? I am roughly 6 feet tall about 165lb, going to be auto crossing and cruising mostly. would you recommend the baja-xrs for that application. I believe I will have a bit more room in between both seats as my 95 has the 60/40 seat style so no arm rest.

    Could it be these? https://corbeau.com/lg1/
stoked to get this 60/40 out. My lady hooked it up for my birthday with some Enkei Rpf1s (she’s a keeper!) and she was asking what I’d like for Xmas. Some new seats would be killer I’m thinking. It’ll benefit her as well when we go out in the taco

Hopefully loaded the picture right, in my 30’s but haven’t been on a forum since my teens. Learning all this over again. Appreciate all the input no doubt. Helping this build come along.
