An OPEC embargo would mean finding alternative sources, ie alternative countries to buy from. I do know oBummer has little influence over OPEC's choice to do what they've (Saudi) has decided to do. Should such an embargo be imposed to all OPEC oil the smaller countries along the west coast of africa and Chavez's Republic would surely pull out to stay afloat. Their economies can barely handle the strain they're under now.

It was mainly a joke playing on the "Thanks Obama" gifs and demotivational posters flooding the internet. But in all reality, he is the leader of the U.S. and issues need to be addressed.

How exactly do you figure replacing oil imports from OPEC nations with oil imports from non OPEC nations would improve the situation for North American oil producers / workers though ? That's the part I don't get .

You won't see an embargo on OPEC anytime soon. Oil from OPEC nations are only allowed to be sold in dollars. That's why it's called the Petro-Dollar, and also why the dollar is the worlds reserve currency. For how much longer remains to be seen.

And he is not the leader of the US - merely the representative of the leader.

By banning OPEC oil would increase the demand for domestic oil and would increase the demand for non OPEC oil .

FVck sakes, man. Are just trollng the sh!t out me since I'm new to TW or do you really want my opinion? Just saying.

I thought we were having a discussion .

I just don't think your boycott OPEC concept would work nor is it realistically going to happen , it's OK to disagree , you don't have to get upset .

    OZ-T,

It's cool. Feels like I'm having a converstionan with a woman, is all. Thing is, I've been in the oil field since 2000 and survived a couple of slumps when others didn't. It's just the nature of the industry to boom and slump. Everyone bitches and complains about gas prices and really don't know fVck all about why and how. You being a woodsman and me knowing some ex loggers from Washington State, can understand some of the crap that both our industries have concerning these things. We're necessary evils of this world in a sense. It's cool, man. But tonight I get to work outside mostly. Til later.

I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK . I sleep all night but I work all day . I cut down trees , I skip and jump , I like to press wild flowers , I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars .

In the other oil price slumps did you expect whichever president was in office to fix the market price of oil ?

I did not. They were ambitious Americans that went into the middle east a picked a fight that drove prices up. The current establisment want to roll and stick his ass in the air and meow loudly.

I wasn't saying you're gay or anything. Just the way you poke and prod for answers, is all. I've also worked with West Canadians before and they did this, too. It's cool.

Are you unaccustomed to conversation ? All I was asking you to do was make your OPEC boycott concept more clear so I could attempt to understand your reasoning .

Conversation is fine. Defending my every quoted statement is something else. I'm not going to write a law into existence over an idea I posted on an Internet truck forum. It may work, it may not. But it'd be doing something, which is better than doing nothing. I'm done with this derailment.

These low oil prices suck right now, but in the long run the ups and downs are healthy for the industry. In all honesty, the US was flooding the market, and Saudi did a smart move in my opinion.

    thanks

Hate to break it to you but this is probably the worst time to try and get into the industry. Almost half of the rigs that were drilling this time last year have or plan to be laid down due the the low cost of oil. A lot of companies have laid of many experienced hands due to the slow down in North Dakota.

However if you are looking to be a roughneck(maunal work on the oil rigs) the top large contractors in North Dakota are: Nabors Drilling, H&P drilling, Precision Drilling, Cyclone, Patterson, Ensign, Pioneer. You can google any of these companies and look at their application process and what they require. A lot of the companies are looking for canadiates that have: no felonies, drug free, open to being away from home for 2 weeks, and able to work hard for 12 hours straight(the last 2 should be easy to come by since you have a military background).

In my position I work directly with roughnecks and I can say I do not envy them one bit. What they do is a lot of hard manual labor and I have the utmost respect to what they do because they make my job much easier.

*Edit: However depending on the market in the future, there is usually a rise in drilling come the summer months. So you can apply now and hopefully the market will go up to start increasing production again in time for you to have a summer job.

If you are just looking for a summer job and no plan to pursue a career in the oilfield Id suggest just getting a temp job in your hometown delivering pizzas. The stress level for roughneck is really rough the first few months as they wont make a lot of money until they become actual hands around 3 months(depending on how determined you are to succeed

This. The slowdown has caused a lot of rigs to release some pretty good people in order to keep experienced guys on. North Dakota isn't quite the wild boom it used to be a year ago and is steadily establishing itself. The slow down isn't great for work, but hopefully it will give ND time to catch up!

The only suggestion I would have is look for a welding job if you have experience and really want to go to ND for the summer. Infrastructure work is booming up there and pipelines are being built like crazy. P.S. I just moved from Spearfish, SD and drove to ND twice a month for work. It's close, but not close enough....

I roughnecked for Ensign for two summers. I absolutely loved it. It's really tough to get on a rig for just a summer though. They don't typically like to do that. You're useless on a drilling rig for the first couple weeks of work.
