So, I did research on the paint. Turns out Toyota uses a water-based paint they have been using since around 1989. They use this paint so that it is more environmentally friendly. The paint is from them and not a third party. Their paint thickness is 100-180 microns. I finally got my meter in to check the thickness of my paint on all sides of the vehicle. On average the vehicle was around 160 microns thick which is in tolerance for Toyota. I did however see the paint as low as 100 microns on the inside jams of the truck. could be just an oversight but some areas on inside jams was as high as 170 microns. I also found out why Toyota paint is soft compared to other manufactures like Mercedes and VW that have hard paint. Soft paint allows the paint to take rock impacts and minimize the damage to the paint job while hard paint when impacted by rocks can chip greatly. All research was done via Toyota website information as well as Google information from various sites. May be correct or incorrect but all I could find. When it comes to the issue with my paint on my inside jam area it is a possibility that the paint was contaminated, or the area was contaminated in the factory. I am leaning more towards the area was contaminated before paint spray. If paint was contaminated, I would have been seeing more issues with paint in my jam area. That is not to say more can happen in the future, but for now I will have to keep an eye out and work with Toyota to get this area corrected. I looked over the entire outside paint job under lighting in my garage and could not find dust, dirt or contaminates that were sprayed in the paint, which is a good thing. I will keep all posted after Wednesday appointment with dealer to have technician look over paint and report back to Toyota. My service advisor said usually Toyota gets back within a few days with a correction to the issue. I will let all know.

toyota paint is super soft but I disagree inregards to minimizing damage.....
Just a tiny specs other than sand puts micro chips in the paint....

All the brands have gone to a more environmentally friendly paint years ago, it is what it is....

Like we chatted via pm, sounds like youre leaning hard on just getting the doorjam repainted & moving-on....
Maybe twist their arms getting some sort of paint warranty extension from them if youre set on correction vs buy back.
    Do that by threatening buyback....
You have no idea if other areas were contaminated & just havent presented themselves yet, thats the issue I have....
Is it just that isolated small area or will the gremlin poke its head after paint coverage is smoked...

"Threatening buyback?" For what? A couple of cosmetic defects in the doorjamb paint where nobody sees it and nobody cares and are smaller than a penny?

    Are you serious?

Jeezuz. Good luck with that........ #PoundSand#

What are you going to do when you come out from the grocery store and a shopping cart has rolled into your truck? Or you actually go off-road and take a bunch of branches on your rear quarter panel? Or you take rock chips on the freeway? Perish the thought of hauling a load of firewood.

Nah, please, kindly stop with the "I spent so much money and therefore expect perfection nonsense."

You bought a TOYOTA. A mid sized truck. Not a Rolls Royce.

Act like a grown up and get your door jamb touched up by the dealer. Or do it yourself. Stop pretending to be a paint expert and quit being nonsensically offended and implying your whole truck is going to dissolve because it has white paint and two tee tiny defects.

40-50K vehicle with poor paint adhesion is a depreciation monster. No one wants your paint shedding ride unless it's dirt cheap. It is absolutely a manufacturer defect that should be repaired [properly, which really means a complete strip and repaint, new paint over old won't make bad paint stick under it] or replacement. You wouldn't buy a vehicle with a cracked windshield, broken side glass or hazed headlights, paint may not be a safety concern but it is a huge part of a vehicle holding it's value.

I just looked up how thick 100 micros is and its .1mm. They say that is one sheet of paper. Should be more like 10 sheets. So the paints friendly for the environment so its not good and then they make it thin so thats double not good.

paint pealing off a a brand new truck isnt a couple cosmetic defects....
I helped a guy get approved for a buy back cuz he didnt like the texture of the paint on his fender flares, which they could have easily repainted for him....
$50k truck, they want to play stupid games cutting corners, painting contaminated panels, they win stupid prizes....
paints falling off & flaking now due to contaminants, what happens 4 years from now...
You really think its just 1 little spot?
If it were my money, I wouldnt be rolling those dice.....
    But, thats me....

They wont repaint his truck, they will just repair the current door jam...

Repaint wont last as long as Toyotas shitty paint....

When I went through the process personally, I know under no circumstance allow the to repaint the vehicle...
Also asked all the body shop guys where I worked, guys painting for 45 years, 2 body shop managers 40-45 years, they said the same...

Service manager for my toyota dealer, they have a Honda body shop on the dealer lot, thats who would be doing the repaint.
Thats who's doing all the previous gen flaking white paint, repaints...
Anyways, the toyota manager also agreed, dont agree to a repaint...
    Wont last as long.

Anyone who thinks that entire truck should be repainted for 2 dime-sized cosmetic defects *in a passenger side door jamb* needs to have their head examined.

And should probably be driving a Prius.

There is no reason whatsoever that cannot be touched up. None. Zero. Negative infinity. Scuff it. Sand it. Mask it. Spray it. Clear it.

That's a comically easy 4 hr job at a pro shop with 3 of those hrs waiting on paint and clear to dry.

My last car, 2018 Honda Fit in Pearl White had a small paint chip on the roof that I touched up with some paint. After a few months the flaking returned and grew to the size of a dollar bill. Long story short, Honda dealer tested every panel on the car for paint defects and every panel failed. $12,000 repaint ensued.

My 2024 TH has the thinnest, shoddiest paint job I’ve ever seen on a Toyota. Absolute FILM level thickness compared to my 2005 that was built at NUMMI (CA).

Our RAV4 by comparison, made in Japan in 2024, has IMMACULATE, thick paint even in the less seen areas.

Night and day on paint jobs from Japan or Mexico.

Which is ridiculous on a $65k halo model.

Yup, do what toyota wants you to agree to....
Do you know for certain there aren't other contaminated areas that havent presented themselves just yet...
Shit is shit, no matter how want to perceive it...
You havent inspected alot of the paint jobs on these new trucks...
Once theres a prep or quality control issue, its not just 1 little spot.
Atleast im not willing to take that gamble with $50k...

The OP will most likely do as you suggested, & nothing wrong with that...

Were all allowed to have an opinion, you have yours....
Mine would be, if they approve a buyback, start over.....

In your mind its just 1 spot, in my mind its already 6 spots, what about 2 years from no due to contamination that was unforeseen on the raw metal or in the primer b4 the paint....
