Anyone prefer SR5 to TRD?

I have a Gen 3 Tacoma on order (Quicksand). Costwise, had to go for the SR5 package instead of the TRD package. I don't do a lot of off roading but want 4WD and the capability if I chose to do so.

My question is: does anyone prefer the SR5 package? If so why?

mats, flaps, and stickers. Extang solid fold 2.0. Mobtown sliders and full skids. AVS vents
I tried to talk myself into an SR5 for the same reasons. I just wanted all the extra bells and whistles that come with the OR and the P/T package.

I can understand that. I'm trying to make myself feel better about being cheap and getting the SR5!

If you de-badge and de-sticker the SR5, it will be way stealth and you can have a lot of confidence leaving it at a trailhead or parking lot or side of the road for a couple nights and not attracting unwanted attention.

4WD system wise, isn't the SR/SR5 essentially the same thing as the older Toyota pickups?

I would absolutely go SR5 if I could get a DCSB 6MT. The price difference alone could net me air lockers at both ends with money to burn.

I went with the DCSB SR5 package with Nav in quicksand. MSRP was $31369. If I wanted to get the TRD Sport or OR in quicksand, to my knowledge, you would have to include the Prem/Tech JBL package which brings the MSRP well above $35k. I understand many on TW are getting them $500-$1000 above invoice, but for me with the specs I wanted I wasn't having any luck in the Bay Area. I already missed out on 2 trucks with the specs I wanted on simply just being late. For some reason SR5 quicksands are hard to find in Northern California. Even when I purchased mine 2 parties came by to look at it. I paid $34k out the door for mine with 1.99% financing and I'm happy.

I strictly wanted quicksand and I could have had the option to get the Sport or OR in Blue, White or Gray for about $1300 more than I paid for my SR5 but to me it still wasn't worth it. The only thing that I would have appreciated was the Push start and the outlet in the bed, to me that wasn't worth an extra $1300. I also didn't care too much for the chrome grill and hood scoop on the TRD. I'm using my Taco as a commuter. I have a 125 mile round trip commute daily and all I need is a smooth comfortable safe ride with a great entertainment system and that's what I got.

Overall I love my SR5. My other car that I also use as a daily commuter is a 2013 Lexus GS 350 and I feel like I'm not missing much to be honest. Both rides are incredibly similarly smooth and I believe the Entune in the SR5 is superior to the Enform in my Lexus. Entune operates so much more smoothly. I always have been a Mercedes/Cadillac driver until this year when I got my Lexus. I decided to follow it up with the 2016 Tacoma and it may have been the best decision of my life considering my commute and what I will get in resale and reliability.

That's good to hear HenPrivilege. I had a BAD experience with an F-150 4x4 (engine died at 19,000 miles). I was looking for a good reliable truck that I can count on for 10-15 years. I had a 1993 Toyota 4x4 pickup (4 cylinder). Toyota made its reputation on trucks like my 93 which was a beast long before the TRD days. Im hoping that my new SR5 is as capable as my old 93 was.

Yes I'm hoping my SR5 will get me an easy 200,000 miles lol. I already have 900 and I bought it on 10/27.

I actually was looking at 2015 1500 Silverados. Chevy was knocking $12,000 off MSRP off a bunch of them in my area. I took one on a test drive and it felt like a work truck. That was exactly what I didn't want. I would have regretted that purchase. I was only looking at them because I thought it was a great deal.

I would have gone with the SR5 no problem, but my 4runner is at 205K miles and figured just get what I want and God willing keep it for just as long. So sold our Land Cruiser to buy the Taco but got to keep my baby(my 4runner)...

SR5 does not come with Manual transmission. No purchasing one from me.

    I had 2010 SR5 4x4
    Then a 2012 TRD Sport 4x4
    Now a 2015 SR5 4x4

I prefer the SR5 seats over the TRD in the gen2. Not sure about gen3.

Anyone know if 4WD performance will be equivalent with older Toyota 4X4 trucks? I'm sure that the 2016 SR5 will be capable off road.

The sr5 4x4 is a capable truck. You got yourself a great truck. Don't second guess your decision.

You don't have to get the Premium & Technology package at all on the TRD OR/Sport or the JBL. P&T is a $2,330 option and w/JBL is $3,035 (MSRP).

A TRD OR 4x4 V6 DCSB has a MSRP of $33,730. Which is a bit less than $35k.

I ordered a TRD OR DCSB 4x4 V6 M/T with only the towing package for just under $33k +TTL.

Yes this is true if you want it in Blue, White or Gray. I was told that quicksand you must have PT package. I never was able to find one either in my searches. I have yet to see a DCSB TRD in quicksand with a $32315 MSRP. Am only looking at 4x2 and Auto as well.

Here's one (use phoenix zip code 85001). You need to look at other regions. If you want one you can order it and have your dealer get it. If they are telling you you must get the P&T package with quicksand they are lying!
