People die more from alcohol and drug related incidents than from guns. It is not a gun, alcohol, or drug problem. It's people problem. Only child support will politicians blame on people. Everything else is a scape goat. Fact is that certain politicians are working with the UN to blame guns across America. The very core foundation of this country was allowing the citizens to bear arms so there would never be another king George. The only reason why politicians will never do anything to stop alcohol and illegal drug is because the unions are to strong. There would be no more work for state and federal workers. There more to this than meets the eye.

I think the key is knowing your gun very very well. Understanding its mechanics and how every single part works as a machine. Taking the gun seriously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year as a DEADLY weapon and nothing less. If you abide by this and have it become part of your daily routine and you understand physics and the result of physics, then you should be safe owning a gun. If you are not confident in these areas then you shouldint own a gun. Nothing to be ashamed of to not own a gun. I own them because I love the sport of projectile motion, and the defense factor makes me sleep better. I just refuse to ever be a victim if I can help it. (not that a gun guarantees that) but it is a fighting chance against the horrendous evil that has always plagued society. its still out there! :rain:

All valid points. Everyone should treat guns like you do.

Not owning a firearm is your decision and it is a perfectly acceptable solution. Some people do not have the personality to own a firearm.

You are incorrect in your assumption that you are more likely to injury yourself by owning a firearm - you admit you have zero experience with firearms but claim you know better on this subject than those of with a lifetime of experience with firearms. I have been a competitive shooter, a firearm's instructor, and have carried a weapon daily in the service of this country both at home and abroad.

But understand the choice you have made.

LTC Grossman (RET) writes that there are three types of people in this world - sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. The average person is a sheep - they are generally harmless and would never purposely harm another human being. They're fine and upstanding people, but they're defenseless to the danger that they face from the wolf. The sheep's only defense is denial.

The wolf is a predator and preys on the sheep's defenselessness. Wolves are murderers, rapists, home invaders, and gang members. The only thing the wolf respects is force.

The third type of the person is a sheepdog. Military, law enforcement, and the prepared citizen are sheepdogs. They look after the flock. Like the wolf, the sheepdog has teeth and the sheep often shun him for it. But when the wolf comes around, you will see the sheep flee and seek the safety of the sheepdog they shun. I have never met a person who complained about my "assault weapon" when I stepped in to protect them, both on duty and off.

Unlike animals, we have a choice. We can choose to live in denial, to pretend that bad people will never attempt to harm us - choose to be a sheep. People also choose to be wolves and to prey on people that choose to be defenseless. People can also choose to defend themselves and others.

I hope for you and your family that the wolf never knocks on your door, as at the moment of truth when you fully realize the consequences of your decision to be a sheep, it will be too late.

Agreed, I would much rather be prepared and God forbid the time came to use a gun I had it rather than the time came and I was defenseless. Once I turn 21 I'll get my permit to carry and go to the range as much as free time and money allows and hopefully I will be in some sort of law enforcement after college(federal agent) or military, if not then I would definitely train to know how to use it.

I have used that analogy before explaining to my family why I will own a gun. Its simple and gets the point across.

Personally, the intentions of the gun bans were not to stop mass shootings from ever happening again but were to limit the amount of deaths when it does happen.

Yes it can be zero if you make it zero. A gun is a very simple device as far as keeping track of and controlling the safety issues. There are only ten simple rules and they be found anywhere online.
