And with that, I believe the flood gates are officially opened... Regulation only affects the law abiding citizens that follow the regulations. Criminals do not care if there is a piece of paper saying they shouldn't do something. Overly regulate guns, the law abiding citizens will not have them. All you accomplished is reassuring the criminals that the law abiding citizens are unarmed.

I agree with Brunes' idea above. Deregulate them and make the punishment for abusing them much more severe.

But what some are unwilling to see are the FACTS that guns ARE regulated. The A..HOLES who are not legally supposed to have them just choose to not abide by those regulations. GHASP!

This is from the Violence Policy Center
[FONT=Arial,Helvetica] For every time a gun in the home is used in a self-defense homicide, a gun will be used in

    • 1.3 unintentional deaths
    • 4.6 criminal homicides
    • 37 suicides22
In 1997 there were 15,690 homicides.

    • Of these, 8,503 were committed with handguns.
    • Among handgun homicides, only 193 (2.3 percent) were classified as justifiable homicides by civilians.23
For every time in 1997 that a civilian used a handgun to kill in self-defense, 43 people lost their lives in handgun homicides alone.24

I know THEY ARE REGULATED. No need for caps man . Lets finish with this I think we need more gun control and you think the opposite. Its a difference of opinion and cannot be swayed either way. Cool?

Me me me! Then I don't need to watch the news and worry about which guns will be banned. I can just laugh at the people that wasted money on them.

I can respect your opinion as long as it's an informed one. I think it's great that you are ok with not owning a firearm and you see no need for them...in your life. I respect your right to make that decision based on what you feel is in your families best interest. Maybe someday a..holes will stop breaking into homes and stealing guns and then using those guns in an unlawful manner. Until that day comes though I will stand poised, and ready, to shoot the bastard in the face that tries to threaten the lives of those that have the same views as you.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
I do own guns, not for personal protection, but to kill squirrels and gophers at the family ranch. They are a huge nuisance and I don't want to poison them because we grow "organic" alfalfa and if we used poison we would not be "organic". Also because my dogs kill 20 or so a year, and I don't want them accidentally poisoned.
I also own a couple of guns that were handed down from my grandfathers, not to use, just sentimental value. All guns are always in locked boxes.

But what regulations are being suggested that would prevent the law abiding citizen from getting a gun? Sure I agree criminals break laws, same for any law in existence. The way I look at it (and yes not a completely great comparison) but look at driving. A person generally needs to pass a basic written exam to show they understand the general important concepts on the road. They're then issued a learners permit where they will need to hey practice, possibly log hours, whatever for a period of time. They then need to show hands on that they appear competent at operating a motor vehicle. They will then be issued a license to be to legally be able to drive a motor vehicle. You then can purchase a vehicle which has to be registered. All this just to be able to get from point A to point B more efficiently. Turn to guns. A tool that was originally invented to solely kill things and can do so in a couple seconds. A person with no experience who has never touched a gun let alone know anything about safe handling, operation, etc can go buy a gun and depending on the venue do so without even a background check? I mean are we really trying to over regulate here. Most of the proposals seem more like common sense that it does over regulation. I don't know. I just think if youre going to say changes only effect law abiding citizens than you could apply that to get rid of most laws in existence. I mean if good people will do good things and bad people will do bad things regardless why have any laws if its not preventing criminals from committing crimes?

I own several guns, I was raised with them and taught at a young age how to handle and store them safely. Both of my kids, daughter 25 and son 22, now own guns and were taught how to use and store them. I will protect myself or my family if the need arises. For those that don't own guns we all have that choice.
