Howdy all, I can tear down, and have, about anything on my Tacoma. Engine, no prob, pulling rear shafts and replacing bearings, no prob. Scared of diff for some reason. I've never done it. I want to install some 4.56's in the rear on my mechanical LSD Pre-Runner rear diff.

Who has done it, what do I need besides the obvious Ring and Pinion and what advice can you give as far as install, etc.

    Thanks in advance!

Contact East Coast Gear supply ,they have everything you need, I had to replace the 3rd member in my 1999, because the pinion bearing went out. I investigated changing it myself, but the preloads and gear set up are very critical. I have set up 3rd members before but just did not have time to do it myself this time.

You don't have to buy from them, but ask about what is involved,.. https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/

Sorry bro, I hit the '9' instead of the '8', 2005-2008 TRD non-Off Road package have mechanical Limited Slip Diff's. But, if you are regearing anyway, why not upgrade to TrueLock or similar?

BTW, if you can find (they are rare, but out there) a wrecked 2005-2008 4cyl TRD PreRunner and get the rear axle, they came from the factory with rear mechanical LSD and 4.11 gears.

Sorry, i ment trutrac, its always late by the time i have time to post, half asleep, lol!

Here is details from Eastcoast estimate...

"us building you a diff with 4.56 nitro gear, best gear for toyota in our experience, and a Detroit Tru Trac for your LSD option. The Tru Trac is in my opinion the best LSD on the market, no clutches to wear out, gear driven and very durable. We also put a 5 year warranty on your Diff, parts and labor."
