He said "after taxes". If you don't know - that "taxes" thing can vary WIDELY from state to state. With that thought in mind the OP should have stated how much the bottom line (what he actually paid) -without any factors like trade in, aftermarket stuff, financing, and fees added in. this would have given all a clearer pic of what he really paid
I paid 30,500 for my SR5 and that DID not include any taxes. Taxes are something that goes to the state/local government,(whether we like it or not) so that is not included in my described cost of the vehicle.
Comparing prices without using "bottom line" is fruitless.

The Locker is great, but I honestly think people make way too big a deal about having one or not. It's an advantage no doubt, but the world got along fine for a long time without them.

Don’t read too much into my swap from SR5 to OR... there were bigger factors, such as SB to LB, 2WD to 4WD, add tech package (wife), etc.

To the OP -I have a SR5 and have not regretted it. I do wish I had the TSS stuff on mine as I miss it after driving the wife's Subaru Outback with "Eyesight".

New TW member here. I recently bought a 2019 Trd OR. I'm happy with mine. I test drove and looked into an SR5. I have to say I would've also been very happy with an SR5. The most important thing is you bought a Tacoma. It will do everything you want it to. I've taken my truck in trails and used 4x4 and thought an SR5 would do just fine where I was. Granted, I don't rock crawl or do anything extreme. I use my truck for what I enjoy doing. I think you did just fine. As posted above, you saved some money to mad as you please. Nothing wrong with that.

OP - nothing there you can't add later. I honestly wouldn't sweat it. Plus you don't have to peel that lame TRD decal off the bed.

I paid CA taxes for a city with a 1% public safety increase (support law enforcement/fire so I’m good with it) 8.75% sales tax. Once again 35 otd for my trd or 4x4. Not to be rude but no matter how you skin this cat it’s a bit high for a SR5. At the end of the day it truly is what makes you happy. I actually paid a bit more for my truck then a lot of people on here. Some people have gotten killer deals on here.

Yeah I did. So after 2 years I sold my SR5 and got a 2019 TRD OR 4x4! Best decision ever and I'll never own a 2wd again.

Nice. Yeah 4x4 was a must for me. I made the mistake years ago on buying a truck without 4x4.

Both are great options based on what you want to do with the truck and your climate.

Personally, the three main differences I wanted - from the factory - on the OR trim was 4x4, the rear locker, and crawl control (the last mainly for fun). I was fortunate to get mine for $36k out the door, as it didn't have the extra fluff of tech and/or premium packages. Lastly, I plan on putting down probably another $10k in mods over time to make it my own, so the Pro didn't make sense at a price point at or greater than those two figures combined.

Hope you enjoy the truck OP!

I have a 18’ TRD Sport DCLB, I’m somewhat in the same shoes. I got another Sport long bed because that’s what my 2nd Gen was. I really wish I explored my options with a OR TRD or even a SR5 with a DCSB. I just got what I heard thinking oh yeah that’s exactly what I want, but after purchasing I realized I probably would have been better off going a different route, with an OR DCSB or an SR5. I don’t believe my sport is a whole lot fancier than an SR5 anyways. I beat myself up over my decision pretty bad for the first few weeks, and it still kind of pisses me off because I spent so much money on something I’m not completely happy with. This was my first time purchasing a brand new vehicle, and I’m the kind of person who’s always pretty happy with what I have. Even taking an OR for a test drive didn’t even really cross my mind at the time and I looked at the shortbox as a why would you want less bed space. I know for next time though, test drive everything even if you don’t think it’s for you. Once I get the truck set up with the lift wheels and tires I want, I’ll probably forget all about the shortbox, but again I feel like it I got an OR DCSB in the first place I probably wouldn’t have even changed anything.

Do not regret my Sr5 purchase. I got mine for 29k after TTL. Dealer weren’t budging on the OR or Sports for 34k+. I’ve put $1200 in mods and plan to upgrade suspension in the fall. I don’t off-road too much. I save that for the side x sides. Does everything I need it to do.

I was totally ignorant of all things Toyota when I first walked on the lot. It was because of getting frustrated at the Big 3 and their websites when researching a new truck that I was driven to look elsewhere. My initial budget was blown trying to buy a bare bones truck because at the time Dodge wanted to sell me a higher trim truck with $11,000 in incentives and discounts for less than the bare bones truck outfitted as I wanted. Right then I started looking around.

I sat in a TRD OR ACLB and test drove it. Then I looked at an inferno. At this point I couldn’t figure out why one had a scoop (I liked it initially) and the first truck had black flares. If I wanted both I would have to buy the hood and have it painted. Right then I stopped and grabbed my brochures and went home to look at the website. By the time I was done I had a ton of things circled in my brochure and went back to the dealer. The website says this but the brochure says that I told the salesperson. I had found every single typo and misprint between the website and the brochure.

End result was I knew my truck inside and out before I dropped a dime. I even took off the kickpanel to find the trailer brake controller connector and had brake controller compatible written into my contract. I was taking no chances that I would be on the hook for a truck that wasn’t exactly what I thought it was. I drove 2 hours each way twice to check out colours of trucks in person at other dealerships. I once drove 4 hours each way to the closest dealer with a manual transmission to test drive.

So to answer your question I knew exactly what each trim and package cost before I made any decisions. I also started researching a year before I bought my truck and I spent at least 3 months researching my Tacoma before I made my deposit. If I had to I intended to order my truck. I hope this will be something you (OP) will think about before you make your next vehicle purchase. A little planning and research can go far.
