I bought the remote starter on here with the cellphone module it’s awesome. The one plus to the SR5 is the engine doesn’t turn off when you open the door with the remote start like the TRD push button start models. Also you can says upgrade that headunit

After taxes?! I had to drive 350 miles north to santa rosa ca to get a 18 TRD off road for 36k OTD.

but back to the OP, you pay what you pay but if I was gonna mod the shit out of my truck I would have bought an sr5 over my OR. I sold my stock suspension for $150 with less than 500 miles on it, and sold my wheels and tires for $500. You can get those deals easily but I'd go aftermarket for bigger and better.

Mind you I do not have crawl or anything with the MT, all I paid for Is flares and a rear locker. (And I guess the tech package? Which I didnt really care for)

Your sr5 is bad ass. It's a great base to start with and begin the mod disease. Take it off road and show us TRD OR AND PRO guys what's up!!!!!

Because of this thread, I think I can eliminate the SR5. My choice is either OR or Sport. Don't want to do a lot of mods or changes after buying my new truck. That being said, I don't like the Toyo tires that come with the Sport. I think an OR is in my future.

I’ve said this before in other threads, I started with a 17 SR5 loved it. Until I test from a 19 OR traded that day. Now that truck was totaled shortly after and I ended up in a 19 OR with prem. And tech. With that said the OR is everything I wanted the SR5 to be and it was the right upgrade for me.

If you really LIKE the Sport but really DO NOT LIKE the Toyo... your dealer will likely swap them to make the sale (yep, they sell tires too!). Also, keep in mind... 17" (Sport) rim versus 16" (OR). If you are just going to change to aftermarket, it won't matter anyway.
BTW, agree on the Toyo... you'll hear plenty here and elsewhere say that they are OK for the first year or so... but quickly lose traction/benefits after that first wear.

I like the idea of the bigger wheels on the Sport. Now you got me thinking again. Not to hijack this thread, but I suppose I have to decide if the upgraded shocks and tech in the OR is worth the 3k price increase.

I have the SR. It's not even the SR5. I would not trade it up for anything. It has the Double Cab, 4x4, V6, A/C, adaptive cruise, tilt, rear camera, BT. It has 32” tires out of the box plus 9.5 ground clearance. There wasn’t much more I could think of to want.

In my opinion, save your money from the crawl control and rear factory locker. Put it into a winch and winch bumper, because even with a locker, you will get stuck. A winch will (usually) be able to save you. That and a tow strap.

I can't seem to find an SR with a manual transmission. Or a Pro with a mt.

DRIVE all trims. There is a noticeable difference in the suspensions. BUY the vehicle that meets your needs. You will find people who upgrade their suspensions and offer the nearly new quite reasonably. Want an SR5 but want the softer OR ride? Just swap in the suspension for under $300. Honestly, you do you... it is your investment. Only YOU need to be happy with it.

Yeah I've read the threads about the auto too. Mine has that same issue I am working through with the dealer. I have to give them the chance to fix before I provide my big mouthed opinion. I would have preferred the stick myself.

The Manual only comes in the Sport, Off Road, and Pro so that wipes out the SR, SR5, and Limited from your choices. The sport and Off Road have the same exact price so that will probably make your choice more difficult.

Go to cars.com and do an Advanced Search for Manual and it will show you all the Manual Tacoma's in your area, sure there will be a couple Pro's available

If your happy with your purchase that’s all that matters as Toyota makes great trucks in all trim levels. I learned years ago off road capability has a lot to do with the person behind the wheel. I just purchased a 2019 trd off road. I had an ac sr5 and was looking for a dc as we now have a grandchild and it’s just easier and safer to put a car seat in the dc. I went looking to buy another sr5, but found the trd off road was only $1200 more locally and the tires on the off road appear to be pretty good. The first thing I did with my last sr5 was upgrade the tires, so that played into my decision to go with the off road. Good luck with your new Tacoma!

I have a TRD Off Road, but if the SR or SR5 would have been offered with a manual transmission (double cab 4WD), I would have gone that route. Stock tires on the OR are decent but I changed them out after 5k miles. Shocks...nothing to write home about. Rear locker, I have not really needed it. Even on some pretty rough trails. I'd rather have put that money towards gas and trips.
