THIS.... this is how I found all the area dealers that had my EXACT truck. I used that information to let them know they were competing for my business. It helped that it was across distributors as well.

When I bought my MGM TRD OR, I was also looking at a Super White SR5. Once double cab, long bed, V6 and 4x4 were factored in, the difference between the SR5 and OR was only ~$1200. That made it an easy choice for me.

I have had an OR for about a year now. I rented a SR5 for about two weeks. I absolutely saw value in the OR over the SR5. While there are some things you can add aftermarket, you can't add it all and even if you can, in the end, you still have an SR5. If you want the extra features of the OR, you are better off getting the OR rather than going cheap and spending money.

    Nope.

The difference between my SR and an off road was about 8k. Which I would have gladly paid, if there was more actual “OR” about it. A locker isn’t worth that. I have an aftermarket locker and haven’t even installed it yet. “Still having an SR” and not having an off-road means literally nothing, in terms of capability as well as status. If a person thinks that, ^^^I most likely would not get along with that person IRL.

Only thing I dislike about my SR5 vs a TRD is having the grey fabric interior rather than the black. Everything else the TRD gives is something I will be replacing at some point anyways.

Seriously? You think people pay $8k for a sticker? You are out of your mind. There are a number of features that justify the price beyond a locker. The way this works is that you spent less up front. You can add whatever you want, but you still won't have an OR that means that the truck you bought for less will still be worth less and you will have put a bunch of money into something that you will never get back. In reality you could hurt the value of your truck by adding things like an aftermarket locker.

The value of my truck is what I determine it to be, I don’t sell my tacomas.

Please tell me what, besides a locker, makes that sticker worth it.

And I was kidding about not getting along. I will force you to get along with me.

For myself, a Toyota pickup is a daily driving toy and an off road/on road utility vehicle, which is how I use it. It’s not a luxury vehicle, in any trim, and that would be the opposite of what I want.

JBL is worthless to me. Sunroof is hilarious. I don’t like the hood scoop or the idea of it. My familiarity with Toyota’s 4 bangers from the 22r to 2/3rz to 2tr means the I4 is my preference.

One of the most important aspects of this truck is the suspension and frame, which are all the same between all the trims. There is nothing on my truck that is weaker, strength wise, than any trim above it. It wasn’t always like that in the past, you had to trim up to get the stronger suspension components (5 lug vs 6) but since these are all 6 lugs, there are no strength differences.

Resale... sure. But as an enthusiast, I specifically bought what I loved. A 4x4 5spd 4 banger which says SR, but since it’s a 5 speed, it’s actually an SR5. SR5 owners with automatics... despite what your badge says, I don’t really know wtf you got because it doesnt have the “5”

Only thing I am regretting is not getting the 4x4. I went from a 2001 Rav4 to a tacoma so I was really happy with a car from this decade first and foremost lol. Now that I've had the truck for awhile I realize all of the things that I can do with it, and I find myself wishing I had 4wd often to drive in sand.

Minus drivetrain and engine, you can just mod an SR5 until you have same specs as TRD's for the most part.

No, you will get along with me!

    Partial list -
    Fog lights
    alloy wheels
intermittent wipers (a must for Fla)
    Power sliding window
    info display
    wireless charging
leather trimmed steering wheel (honestly I haven't been able to tell where they used leather in the wrap)
leather shift lever (this is leather. I didn't realize the value until drving the SR)
Push button start (I didn't realize how much I loved this until I had to put a key back in the ignition)
    Homelink rear view mirror
Nav (although I don't use Nav, the display is bigger and much nicer. plus doesn't have the tiny knobs)
Individual TPMS - I can see which on is low and not have to guess
    Locker
    CRAWL
    Bilstien shocks

There are probably some other small things, but they add up after a while. While many of the features I could live without, but being able to open the door without a key or being able to push a button to open the back window is nice. I don't need wireless charging, but it comes in handy when you are down to the last percentage.

    ...probably even more too

There is actually quite a difference but yes, the bones (frame) and engine are the same if you get the v6

Ah see. There’s the issue, for myself anyway. First and foremost, no matter the trim, wheels are getting replaced to trd bronze.
    A2394D3D-E3E1-4A97-AE00-9B3D7F417C6F.jpg
Shocks stay oem until they blow, then fox2.5. Again, any trim, this is happening...Though my oem hitachis (for SR AND limited) are surprisingly decent for the trail, Though they won’t last, as any oem are gonna blow if you take them off road, they lack the endurance.

I only rock manual trans, so crawl doesn’t apply.

That leaves me with locker, as I originally stated.

All that other stuff, while you may like it, is not “off road” performance, which is what would push me towards an OR.

The ONLY thing I’m interested in is actual real-world off road application upgrades. If the OR only has peripheral novelty/creature comfort stuff, it doesn’t apply in my eyes. In other words, a bed outlet and wireless charging doesn’t help me on the trail. So. Pass.

I got an SR5 4x2 as well, I kind of regretting not buying a 4x4 but I am okay with it now. I do make some trips to the snow once or twice a year and camping trips to other terrains but the truck still manages fairly easy. Just have to be smart about what roads I go down and worse case I put some snow chains on but I haven't need them yet. I only go a couple times a year so, I am happy with it. I think it is also cheaper on the insurance.

Yea I make do. Some friends keep trying to convince me to do some trails around here (gulf coast) so it's sand and marshland. They say they've only used 4wd when it gets really bad, but I still don't want to be that guy... I never even considered going off-road until I got the truck.

It is reassuring to hear you say that you've made it work with 2wd. I'm assuming no mud or soft sand, anything like that. What tires you running?>

I thought about going off-roading too, trading in my SR5 and getting a TRD OR but then I keep telling myself. "your'e going to spend all this money and never go."

Anyways, to answer your question, I have the stock tires on mine. I haven't really made any major mods. I definitely don't go to sand or marshlands. Just roads that have been plowed or packed down from other vehicles driving so nothing serious at all. I just got offered $27k (2017 w/ 20k miles) by the dealership when I was getting serviced the other week, could probably get 2-3k more if I sold it privately. Could do that and get a used or new SR5 4x4 if you wanted.

I sold my Ram 1500 5.7L 4x4 and bought my 2018 V6 DBL cab SR5, I wanted a TRD a first but they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. In the 3 years I had my Ram I never once switch it to 4x4 so I was ok with going to a 2wd. What sold me on my SR5 was the super white with factory black rims, emblems & tonneau cover.

You should set a poll. I think you might find more TRD owners like my self that wish they would’ve bought an SR5.

I’ve been looking at TRD just cause I like “nicer” things but this leaves me happy I got an SR5. I got mine for just under $30k and I’m definitely going to make some big changes in the next couple years. Probably once I pay it off

    None....yet.
Well...im inside the truck most times when im driving it, so i really like my inferno interior trim and stitching, the big touch screen, push-button start, and of course the SKEEEWP!!! She is my daily and i drive in the city 80% of the time. Gets me to 100% of my fishing/hunting spots no problem. Of course if i do want to get into some mud or other shenanigans, i have the luxury of having my other little yota for that. So, i can see both points. If it was my only truck, id probably rather save the dough and personalize it more. But man do i love some skewp. As long as its a taco, you cant really go wrong.
