I recommend not selling the 1st gen but I am biased....I do understand needing more space and safety features if you have a family/small children. But if there's a way to keep it and have both, do that!

Whatever you do, DO NOT trade your 1st gen in. When you offer your 1st gen as a trade in, I guarantee you that salesman's eyes are turning into dollar signs and he's probably salivating. Of course he's going to lowball you on the trade in offer but he knows good and well that they are going to turn around and list that thing for probably $15k on their lot and make a ton of profit. 1st gens have great resale value, especially with under 150k miles and he knows that...you can get that money for it yourself (or close to it) if you sell it privately.

But don't do that...keep it ;) compact trucks are a thing of the past that we are likely to never see in production again, and Toyota made the best of them.

I definitely miss my 2002 TRD OR - She had 197K miles and I was able to trade her in for $5K.
No issues for 15 years... I do miss her.. BUT i did move on to my 2017 TRD PRO... so far so good..
But when I see a look-a-like first gen on the road... it brings back old memories :sadviolin:

Pfft! Put any Gen / any MY change against the fugly full or mid size Chevy's / GMC's or Dodges, esp that last gen Dakota. The Taco has always been a good looking truck.

Edit: Add to the fugly list, the new Ford Super Duty. WTF?

I love my 93 n my 2nd gen wish I had a 1st gen. Current gf has a 3rd gen love that one as well but it has an automatic not a fan of autos. But teaching her how to drive a manual. She like driving the 93 in her parents pastures.

I went from a 93, to a 98 to an 05 now in an 18. Each one improved on the prior in my opinion. The only question I have is if the 18 will be as reliable as the previous 3.

Keep the 1st gen. Get a small beater car for people hauling space. 1st gens with low miles like yours and in good shape are hard to find. Don’t trade it in, you’ll lose your shirt if you do.

I miss the 95 I had. However, I've learned that I can't live without a way to stream stuff from my cell phone, I gotta have cruise control, I need the extra room. My 2018 can't compete with my 95 in categories like locking gas door, manual locking hubs, and a metal bed.

But Runner is so comfy any time I miss my 1sty its only sentimental. Cant imagine doing any major road trips in my 1st gen. It was awesome while I had it and there were many adventures that I wouldn't have had without but moving on was easy enough

What complaints do you have about the composite bed? My 05 still looked new after 13 years of ownership.

My 2012 had some scratches and a couple of gouges. With the metal bed you can scratch it all to hell and then spray a bedliner on it like nothing ever happened. The composite bed it's just there forever. My bed bolts rusted badly too in my 12 and I live in south. I'm curious how much less the bed on my 2012 and 2018 weigh compared to my 95 bed.

Someone on here sprayed in a bed liner. Said there's a procedure that works. So you do still have that option.

Give me the lightweight composite bed all day over a metal one that can rust through.

Like my 16 but loved my 04. Don't regret making the switch tho. Safety was a big reason with all the dipshits texting and driving with their heads up their ass. I also wanted to go to a 4x4. My 04 was bulletproof and I got top $ fast selling it PP.
