    Trying to learn about dirt bike laws in SoCal. Can anyone explain what differentiates a red sticker bike from a green sticker bike? And are red sticker bikes still restricted to certain times of year? (on public land)

    I believe red sticker applies to all 2 strokes 2003 and newer and all new race bikes. With red sticker you're extremely limited on where you can ride and what time of the year. Essentially sand dunes only. Glamis, ect.

    https://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=26886

    I recall when I bought my 2003 CR250R, their was a lot of prejudice against 2 stroke bikes at the time by park rangers. (Waiting by your truck for you to return and then demanding to see registration, inspecting for spark arrestors, sound decibel checks, ect). One year CA messed up and mailed everyone green stickers. I exploited that for the whole year. :bikewhoops:

    Eventually I left and moved to AZ. There was a period when AZ didn't even require owners to register ohv's. That all changed over time. Side x Sides are street legal in AZ though.

    Unless you have a solid reason to stay in CA (family, work, wealthy, ect) I would recommend moving elsewhere.

    So then old 2-stroke bikes still get a green sticker? Like a 1992 kx125? Because i'd imagine the old bikes are worse for the environment.

    I've heard that park rangers will even check your fuel can to make sure its one of the new (and arguably worse) EPA-friendly ones.

    Are park rangers still against 2-stroke bikes? Like almost sounds like its easier to get a YZF or a CRF;
