I'm wondering if anyone out there is running 285/75/17 on a 2.5 - 3" lift? The reason I ask is that it seems that 285/70/17 are only 1.1" taller than 265's and about 3/4" wider than the 265s. Where as 285/75/17 are 2.2" taller and retain the same 3/4" width increase. I would think after lifting my truck 3" it could accommodate a 2" taller tire but after searching the site nobody appears to be using that size. Is there a reason why? do they cause issues? I went to a tire shop and had a 285/70/17 mounted and it really didn't seem much bigger than my stock 265/70/17 nitto tires. So has anyone tried this successfully or failed with this combo. I really want bigger tires. My 265 seem to small now that the truck is lifted. Thanks for any help or direction!

I'm running a leveling kit that sits around 2.5-3inch higher than stock with 285/75/18's nitto trail grapplers with no problems.

285/75/18 is almost a 35" (34.8")tire! Did you have to do any trimming? Your truck looks great BTW.

Toyo Makes their MT in that size and I'm also considering "Making" them fit.

    Sub'd for others thoughts

Been on the forum for a week-ish spending 4 hours a day researching this question (bored at office). I have in boxes a Toytec Boss suspension 3" lift (coil overs and add a leaf) and Light Racing Upper Control Arms, install planned for a week from now.

For tires I'm planning on 285/70R/16 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws (since I have a TRD Offroad, if you're talking 17's I'm just assuming you have a Sport(edit: I now see you have aftermarket 17" wheels)). Second and third were Mickey Thompson MTZ's and Toyo MTZ's. The consensus is they will fit based off all of the research and reading I've seen, so I don't think you'll have an issue with the 17" wheel+tire combination. Worst case, most people have trimmed some plastic and in extreme cases they get a "body chop" at a shop where I assume they take a torch to where it rubs.

I also bought 1.5" Allpro wheel spacers but I don't think I'll end up needing them...if I do then I'm very sure I won't have wheel rub. I bought them before deciding on the tires. Wanted to have my stock BF Goodrich A/T's stick out a bit...not sure how that's gong to look but I'll find out b/c it'll be a month before I get the Mickey Thompsons.

Hope this helps, I'm pretty new to all this and still putting it all together. If I'm wrong someone please call me out so we can learn!

My current tire is a 295/70r17 and I had to trim lots of plastic and still rub the Cab Mount at full stuff with 3" of lift, will be doing the CMC at some point. There will almost certainly be metal cutting and plastic trimming involved to run a 34" tire and actually be able to use your truck

On Monday (March 24th) I had a TOYTECH 3" lift installed and some Duratrac 285/70R17s installed. In order to not rub against the control arm of the front coils they had to install so 1 1/4" spacers to make them fit. Now my rims were the culprit, and if I had some rims they pushed the tires out, there wouldnt have been any rubbing issue.

There is still a bit of rubbing on the plastic in the wheel wells but I am removing the factory fenders flares and putting on some black Bushwacker fender flares. I might have to do some trimming but I will see and let you know.

2013 Pre DoubleCab 3" Rough Country lift. I put Rockstar XD's with -12mm offset and 285/70/17 Toyo's. Even after removing the mud flaps I had to cut a small portion from the inside of the front flares. The outer lugs of tires were rubbing.

So this is kinda of strange and not to high jack my original question but, I just had my truck aligned today. I still have my 265/75/17 tires on it no upgrade yet and now the tires are rubbing in reverse on the front. These tires didn't even rub before the truck was lifted. Any thoughts on this? Did they mess something up?
