What suspension/tire size are you running there? How's the road noise/ride quality with those duratracs?

TRD 2” lift from the factory! It’s on 285/75/16s Can’t go wrong with a warranted lift haha. This is my 6th Toyota truck I’ve put duratracs on. I live in the pnw and have been extremely happy with how they perform in the rain and snow. They are probably the only tire I’ll run on my daily until they come out with a new version, or I find something that looks as good and performs equally! I’ve wheeled my first gen pickup on duratracs like crazy before the 37s. Just gotta be careful with the sidewalls on rocky trails. I’ve heard they are weak if you wheel hard, but I never had that issue.

Thanks! I've got fox 2.5's coming next week and I'm leaning towards the Duratracs over the Toyo open country at3's for a little more bite. :mudding:

That’s exciting! They are the most aggressive AT tire I’ve seen  when you get everything together post a pic of the end result!

I put Duratracs on my Jeep (94 YJ) 10 years ago. I mostly chose them for looks as I was 17 at the time and really had 0 criteria for choosing tires and needed tires badly. They were decent, a lot of people complain about the noise but I thought they sounded kind of cool. They were super slick in the rain though…..

through my 5 years of trucks I’ve had Falken Wildpeak, General Grabber A/TX, BFG KO2, and Toyo ATIII. The Toyos have for sure been my favorite tire, with General as a close second. I didn’t like the other two and I’d say the Duratracs come in 3rd, after the Generals. When choosing between Toyo ATIII and Duratrac, I would go for the Toyo.

that said, duratracs are not a bad tire. I just wouldn’t choose them again. I’m putting Toyos (31x10.5R15) on the Jeep this upcoming week actually, just waiting on discount to receive my new American racing wheels.

I've ridden in a 3rd gen tacoma with 285/70/17 at3's. They were super smooth. Very high quality tire. They're also a lot lighter. :notsure:

The Toyos have absolutely stunned me for an AT. They drive like a street tire, they have the black sidewall I want on nearly every size, they’re extremely light weight, have great traction and they wear well. Haven’t found anyone with balancing issues with them and I regularly drive 85 mph and they’re smooth as glass (and they’ve even been moved to another set of rims which disturbs them and makes them less likely to balance again).

They do have a mild looking sidewall except for the LT versions, but other than that I literally can not find one reason to not keep buying them. I considered Michelin Defenders since I’m not much of an off-roader but the Michelins are just not enough better on the road for me to ditch the Toyos. Absolutely love these tires and three years ago, I’d never have considered Toyo, they just weren’t on my radar at all and I had no interest.

I love the fact it's so lowkey that only those who know know what's up with these lights

Same here. I look for it all the time on every Tacoma and so far I’ve only ever seen one. I always wonder if anyone notices mine. Probably not.

I've seen 1 also, I could tell by the fact that broad day light his/her brake lights illuminated the entire C-shape, but I didn't see the reverse-as-turn in action so couldn't be too sure if they are indeed stage 1 or stage 2.

Same! I was originally gonna get the kit on my old 18 tacoma and completely forgot about it after I sold it. I was behind a guy on the way up to MT Hood last week and when he hit the turn signals I was like damn I gotta buy that kit. Only question I have is, when in reverse and the turn signal on, should it flash white and orange or is it normal for the reverse light for the side that the signal is on not to come on at all?

The processor in the switchback cuts off the reverse to blink the amber only. You essentially lose backup light function for the side the signal is on for that situation. Not a huge deal though.

It does help to add some aux backup lights in the bumper or similar for real backup lighting. Backup lights in the tail lights are never that great anyways, even when upgraded aftermarket.

I’m not too worried about it! I don’t think I’ve ever used signals when I’m reversing anyway. Thank you for all of your info and guidance!

Dangit, people telling me the V6 Extreme reds would be significantly brighter than the 50-LED reds I have currently have me wondering how much I’m leaving on the table. I am happy with what I have but I’m curious to see the difference. Wish it wasn’t so expensive. The return process costs some money too if it doesn’t work out.

I’m one of those weirdos who at times signals when backing up, mainly in parking lots.

What would happen if you had the hazards on and reversed.....no reverse lights at all?

I was hoping that someone would make a light similar to the yukon, where it has a full red C and an amber inner section.
Some of the aftermarket tail lights look cool (Alpharex) but don’t seem bright enough.

@BLtheP I agree with you on the duratracs, they’re on the company chevy trail boss and with the recent rains here I’ve had them break a bit on someone of the stupidly designed SoCal on ramps that go past a 90° turn.

I thought those falkens were good, but they were on a ram 1500, maybe vehicle matters to a degree.

Just add the vled brake bar. It’s bright and less than $100

Yeah hazards will end up with no backup lights. The aftermarket lights unfortunately have poor build quality and they really are not bright enough. I don’t personally consider the one downside of the switchback kits to be enough to not run them. But I don’t backup with my hazards on ever really, and I hardly ever parallel park. I do have lights in my bumper as reverse only lights also, which helps.

the one strong suit the falkens had for me was wet traction, but I had a bunch of other problems with them.

So I installed a set of sequential turn signals in the mirrors. Do you happen to know if the VLEDs will still be synchronized with them?

    TIA!
