I've seen some vintage VW westfalia shops have set up shop in TJ and they do restorations out of there, good paint and body work.

Looking at getting a paint job (same color), and maybe some minor body work (some dents/scratches/rust spots)

Is it worthwhile to go down to Tijuana and save a bunch of money? Anyone have any shop recommendations?

Not with a Toyota pickup. You'll never see it again.

    Nobody steals VWs.

Yeah I’m on the opposite side of the border lmao. I’m headed to Reynosa within the next month to have the roof repainted and the rest of the paint corrected on this 2011 I just bought. :D

Someone brought this up in a thread not that long ago. If you have connections and know someone sure. They mentioned Mexico doesn't have the same epa waterbase paint requirements, so you can still get urethane auto paint. I have no idea.

I quit going down there for diving in 2007...did enough in the navy. I remember getting pics and buying the military guys drinks. After about three rounds....started thinking that was not a good idea since they all had loaded rifles.

There's a reason most resorts in Mexico advise you to stay in the grounds of the resort...

It’s just super easy to get ripped off by anyone or bullied/harassed by their customs agents/police. The odds of getting carjacked are way higher too. I have dual citizenship and even I think twice about going sometimes.

Yes there is, because they want to take all your money themselves.

All inclusive resorts. I have family members that partake, but I've never been. I know there's been some issues with at least one of those resorts in the news. Something about a family from Wayzata witnessing too much while on vacation. It seems to pop up in the news more frequently these days.

That, and, well you know.. tourists really can't act right which I'm sure angers the local members, which well leads to missing persons...

Border areas are full of riffraff. Deeper into the country many areas are fine. Over the years I've done a fair amount of driving and driving over the years down there and never had an issue. Except once, I think think a guy at the gas station fucked me over on the pumps. I challenged him and I got nowhere and had to catch a flight so said fuck it.

my gardener, who is Mexican, said his brother drove back for some holiday in his new Tacoma a couple years ago. Stolen.

I have done it multiple times, F150 size truck ~ $1500 USD 2 years ago. I advise getting full coverage insurance as the laws in Mexico are different than in the US. Is it a showroom new finish, no but it isnt rusting away either. If interested PM me and I will see if I can find his phone number. Speaking spanish or having a spanish speaker makes it eaiser... each truck took apx 3 weeks.
