I waited for him to show up but he never did.

I can't figure out his lift, I love the height and the whole truck, but his geometry seems pretty straight? But it's not a DB lift... and the back is almost 5" higher than my truck.

Pics of said truck and comparison to mine (stock) below.

    Thanks.

Looks like Bilstein 5100's up front and maybe a large leaf pack in the back, maybe OME Dakars or All Pro Expos

I know it's hard to tell from the pics, but would you feel good calling that 3"s of lift?

Bilstein 5100 with an OME coil of some flavor. Light racing control arms.

Can't say for the rear without pics, but you have to remember the height difference is coming from both the lift and tire size. So if he has 3" lift in the rear from dakars and those are 33's, he will be 4" taller than a stock Tacoma.

Looks like a 3" lift to me, like @rngr said, you're getting lift both from suspension and also from the tires. From the side by side pic, it looks like his tires are a few sizes bigger than yours.

Yeah I am on stock 265 or whatever, he is on 285/70/18.

I am just going crazy deciding what lift to do, I had been set on a 4.5 RCD DB since I bought the truck, then I went to a 6" BDS S2 with Fox Coilovers, now I am thinking of dropping back down to 3" and doing a full stage 4 icon or fox.

What are your intentions with your vehicle? Is it to look awesome and just drive around town or are you planning on doing some good off-roading, either answer is fine, just trying to get a feel for your intentions for the truck

If you'd like to go Offroad I would suggest a 3" lift like the ICON stage 4 you stated. You'll have better ground clearance than a DB lift since your crossmember will stay where it is. You'll have much better handling and center of gravity Offroad as well.

This is the problem. I don't really know. Honestly 80-90% of the time, it's a work truck and DD. And I totally want a badass truck.

On the other hand, it's my camping rig and I do enjoy going to local ORV parks, and before I even bought the truck my goal has been to make an expedition/overlanding truck. I want to take the route (forget the name) that goes from like, Cali/Oregon border to Canada. And my fear is if I do a DB kit, I will be fucked in parts of that trail, or my local ORV's.

And the last thing is when I have taken my truck on misc logging roads, and areas around WA, I kind of like to bomb down them... which my stock suspension doesn't like.

    Sigh.

My last "decided build" was to buy the the Fabtec basic DB kit, and then buy the ICON extended travel coilovers for the front, the extended shocks for the back (with resi on both), and a custom Alcan 6.5" spring.

i *hate* doing things twice and am willing to spring for what I think will be the right setup.

Also I have already ordered (but called and put the order on hold) 17x9 -12 (4.5BS) wheels with 285/70/17 Duratracs.

I *don't* have intentions to do crazy boulder shit, I mostly just want to be able to make it down trails, play in mud, and survive the snow.

For your intentions I would definitely say go 3 inch lift kit. I would do something from the big 3 if you're going with a nice mid travel setup. KING, FOX, or ICON. Almost anyone I know who started out with a DB lift ended up selling it and going to a 3" lift. For the rear I would go with some OME Dakars or All Pro Expos, they would fit the need for turning your rig into an expo/overland rig. I had duratracs as my first set of All terrains and I loved them so I think that's a good choice. With that size you'll probably want a cab mount chop if you don't already have one. I think 3" lift with aggressive/larger tires is the best look!

Here's my truck with 3" lift and 35" tires

Those shocks look like the ones I'm running from the rcd 4.5 or 5 inch lift kit.

It looks that high to me but it's pretty obviously not a drop bracket lift, right? I have more pictures that show it.

Unless I'm an idiot. (Fair possibility).

Next to a stock truck a 3" lift with 33's looks huge. 4" makes a big difference like you saw.

Also the shocks do indeed say RCD on them. First thing I noticed bc my original plan was to do the RCD 4.5 but I think I am slowly talking myself out of a DB lift.

Those are definitely RCD 5100s, but I can't tell for sure if he's running the DB lift. Judging by the amount of lift he's getting and the angle of his axels, it's a good possibility that his skid plate is covering the RCD drop bracket.

I think this pic proves otherwise doesn't it? This is where I'm getting confused. I should have included this pic in the first post.
