With the new 22 tundra out is anyone debating switching to the Tacoma’s big brother? Sure it’s a first year vehicle so potential issues but in general anyone looking to make the switch for this long waited new generation of the tundra?

My current situation is I love my Tacoma for it’s compact size but car seats are huge now a days and I feel bad for anyone sitting in the front seat of my double cab who is forced to sit with perfect 90 degree posture hah. Gas mileage for the tundra after the break in period in theory should be consistent with the latest Tacomas as well.

I know I sound like an old fart but it sucks they got rid of the v8 in the tundra.

I would wait and see how they do for a year or 2 before buying one.

Yeah, and put some trim levels on hold due to a recall. I think the 1794, not really sure what it was though?

OP, might want to wait a year or two.

Been on there reading for a bit. Definitely seeing some issues but my 2016 Tacoma was shit the first year too lol. I actually my truck in shop for three months for some gasket seal recall. I will probably wait a year though until next baby comes along and let them work out the bugs. I’m worried about the size and adjusting to that coming from a Tacoma.

From someone who owns a TTv6 in a pickup.. Ive got the ecoboost f150. Its got tons of power and gets great fuel economy. However I pull a trailer 1000+ miles at a time, several times a year. Put some weight behind that motor and you will literally net 6-7mpg.

I know that a V8 will drop in mileage when you tow a trailer but going from 20mpg to 6-7mpg seems excessive

My 21 tundra is averaging 11.4mpg. The v8 is great but the mpg is a joke. Looking at switching to a trail edition Tacoma.

I'm in the maybe category on the new Tundra. I have an '04 Silverado Crew Cab I use for most of my long trips and for towing; my Taco is mainly for off-roading and road trips which don't involve towing long-distances (not that it can't do it, it's more that my Silverado does it better and is more comfortable to sit in for long periods at a time).

That said, my Silverado is starting to get long in the tooth and I plan on replacing it around '24. At that time I'll asses how the new Tundra's are doing and may move into one. The lack of a V8 concerns me as well, since here in the west we have some very long grades which when towing on a warm day can be quite taxing. I know back in the day Turbo motors were considered less than ideal for towing, but I also recognize that Turbo technology has improved in the past 10-20 years, though they still seem to be a weak-point.

Bottom-line I'll wait for them to be out for a year or two and see what some real-world reports are.

My Dad told me a lot of things. Some proved true, others not so much...

My '93 T100 was the first year for the T100; I still own and drive it regularly. Aside from the typical headgasket problems Toyota had with the 3.0 V6 (which afflicted all the vehicles they put that engine in such as the smaller pre-Tacoma trucks and early-mid 90's 4Runners) I never had any 'first-year gremlins' to sort thru. I've also had friends who have bought first-year vehicles with no serious problems or long down-time. Remember it has a warranty. Also if you buy it right, if it proves to be problematic, sell it and go get something else.

Maybe in a few years when they work out the kinks. Also in a few years the base model will probably start at 65k the way truck prices have shot up.

I've tossed the idea around, but we've made it work with 2 car seats, and once they flip around to front facing it actually takes up less space, so just hang in there

I finally saw one on the road yesterday and 20 seconds later I saw another one. Good looking truck, but I couldn’t afford one if I wanted to. I agree that it’s a good idea to wait until any potential bugs are worked out. I hate going to the dealership even if the repairs are free. JMO.

100% agree. I had a 2020 silverado that had issue after issue. The warranty was great to have, but it sucks when the dealer is out of loaners or has no truck loaners available. It creates a real headache when you need a truck to do truck stuff and your 50k truck is stuck at the dealer.

Are your car seats rear or front facing? Rear facing eats up a ton of space. Just got to live with it for a few years and then once they go front facing it clears up space.

I am not considering it, but I really don't care for the complexity of the new Tundra. I am sure the F150 ecoboost is similar. There is a reason I dont drive that, too. I am just thinking long term ownership (even though it's a Toyota). Take a look at this in-depth review, if you have not seen it, to get an idea.

Full size, Ram with the 5.7 is way to go. For what my opinion is worth.
