A supercharger with electronic clutch that can be toggled from an in cab switch would be an awesome way to add power on demand.

What kind of brake controller are you using and where did you mount it?

I have a Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ that I moved over from my totaled Jeep. Installed on the left side of the dash below the AC inverter switch. The Gen3 Tacoma uses a 2015+ Tundra style connector for the brake controller.

I was wondering if toyota or anyone was going to make a brake controller that would fit in the pocket right above where you mounted your brake controller...

This has been the case with all Tacomas.

My 17 ft Casita Freedom Deluxe (see my profile image) weighs about 2500 dry. I think the max combined weight of the trailer and cargo is supposed to be 3500. A Tacoma should be able to pull that. I was getting 15 mpg towing my Casita on relatively flat terrain (Cheyenne, Wyoming to Glendo, Wyoming). 12.5 mpg kinda stinks, but that could be related to engine not being fully broken on or high mountain passes. Still no other towing reviews available yet?

Can you elaborate on your actual speeds? Towing ~3000# up steep grades at 75mph vs 60mph are pretty big differences. I plan on towing, but I don't expect to maintain 75mph+ unless I'm ready for major ding to MPGs.

Not really, wasn't paying that close of attention to my speed on the grades, but I was keeping up with traffic. I'm sure there were plenty of 75mph sections where we were doing 60mph, but again, we were keeping up with regular traffic. Passed plenty of RVs and SUVs towing trailers on the grades.

I've driven I17 plenty of times. Normal flow of traffic can easily be 80-85mph. I'd be curious to know what speeds you maintained on the grades.

Ive towed my 20' bass boat with my 16 trd sport about 100 miles up and down some pretty significant hills (2 hills go about 2.5 miles) and I am happy with it. about the same as my 2008 trd sport. I would guess that my boat trailer gear and gas weigh around 4k-4500lbs.

Omg this mobile website is killing me...... Anyways.... I helped a friend tow Friday night for the first time ever. The trailer was about 1700lbs empty and probably about 2500lbs loaded. The truck had absolutely no problems pulling it, though here in louisiana, it's all flat lands. Braking was pretty normal, and although it didn't accelerate super fast, it didn't feel like it didn't have the power to... Not that you would need or want to accelerate really fast when your moving old antique furniture.....his trailer not mind.... Personally I think he was stupid to put that huge Klein box on the front the of the trailer. Messes up weight distribution... But I made sure to take picks of leaf spring sag as well... Enjoy.

I drive a truck for a living and I tow with my Tacoma a lot. In the summer I pull my 19' trailer with my RZR all the time. The Rzr weighs over 1600 lbs as it sits the trailer is 760 lbs. I pull this down the rd at 70 to 75 all the time. My 2011 has no issues doing this and I have plenty of braking power. Who ever thinks you can't pull this is a dumb ass and doesn't no shit. I could easily pull more weight.

I can say though that towing in the Rockies is very different than the mid-west. That 3500 lbs that seems effortless on flat land becomes a big issue when you are climbing tall mountain passes in excess of 10,000 ft. It is easy to tell the difference in acceleration unloaded at high altitudes. You gotta rev high because of the lack of oxygen. Suddenly your truck feels like it is running on 3 cylinders (I owned a Geo Metro so I know what 3 cylinders feels like ;) )

Yes when you are gaining elevation everything pulls harder. But for someone to say you can not pull more than 1500 lbs. with a Tacoma doesn't know what he is talking about. When you are gaining elevation you can not expect to run like on the flats. horse power and tq is everything when pulling gets hard
