Or maybe a mall crawling Smart Car? Seriously what a stupid thread. I think people like to post new threads asking ridiculous questions to get attention. Maybe some kids were just taken off mommies boob too early.

Personally I've been thinking about trading myTacoma in on one of those sweet Nissan cubes. Or maybe even a Chevy Cruze or a Nissan Leaf. Why did I even buy a new Tacoma? what was I thinking?

Owners like this is why we’ll see a hybrid Tacoma before we see any other improvements in drivetrain.

So you're going to spend a difference that would equate to like a decade+ of gas, because you don't like the Tacoma's MPG? Wut?

It may make sense for those in metropolitan areas.
But not for people in wide swathes of the country.
And I'm not talking about range. (Though there's that).
Who's gonna work on it when it needs repair? (And it will).
Even out here in the sticks lots of guys know how to work on vehicles with IC engines.
But I'll wager there's no one within a hundred miles of me qualified to work on a Tesla.

    So, no.
But I need a truck anyway, so it's out of the question.

Tesla will likely file for chapter 11 by June of this year. Too many people are so caught up in the hype that they're ignoring the warning signs.

    That was uncalled for...I apologize.
But, threads like this make me want to crank both of my trucks and just let them run in the driveway all day. Then eat a big slice of a cow while hitting kittens in the head with a hammer.

No. Truck is paid off and I'd be lucky to get $17,000 for it. I can easily afford fuel, it's one of my smallest annual expenses.

I do worry about Tesla's long term viability. They're struggling to stay afloat with no competition - what are they going to do when Toyta, Honda, Ford, GM, BMW, etc. have all gone electric? Who is going to want a Tesla at that point?

I mean, they're a US company so I want them to be a success, but I'm not sure I see it.

there are like 12 guys on this forum that *need* a truck. The rest *want* a truck for various reasons ranging from filling in their image to wanting to go mudding with their buddies on the weekends.

You may be right, in all seriousness.
    I could see owning one.

If there wasn't grit and salt all over the roads I'd fire up my dinosaur V-Twin motorcycle.
And ride around intentionally blipping the throttle.
V&H aftermarket pipes...if you know what I mean. :burp:

Not really, I like the folks here. But I understand the sentiment.

Sounds good to me. I want a hybrid Taco, and I'm honestly shocked we don't already have one.

It was bound to be a highly risky venture, betting on a disruptive technology.
Disruptive in the sense of trying to bring about a paradigm shift in the auto market.
Which is what Musk needs to bring off to make Tesla as successful as all its supporters hope.

Tesla is in a precarious state.
I can think of a few things off the top of my head that could kill it:

    1) Big investors lose patience. Which would make securing further credit much more expensive.
    2) A bad recession comes before they find their feet.
    3) They lose the "cool" factor.
    4) Serious competition. See number 3 above.
    5) Musk himself. Tweets about "funding secured" and interviews with him toking weed make one wonder.

They would probably weather a couple, but all of the above at once would do for them.

You might change your mind when it’s built more like a Ridgeline than a truck, or softer still.

I’m into progress and design evolution, but inevitably.. car people who want trucks will eventually turn those trucks into cars with beds and they lose utility, outside of the bed which becomes a large trunk.

I wish they’d buy cars instead, if that’s what they need, instead of neutering the midsize truck segment for generations.
