So I've been cruising for a new set of tires as I'm probably due within the next year. I currently have General Grabber atx's in 285/75/r16. I do a lot of beach driving, and they have been fantastic. However, they're super heavy (60lbs) and I was looking for something a little lighter to hopefully recoup some gas mileage.

I stumbled across the Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse and they have pretty stellar reviews, and only weigh 53lbs. It's not much in terms of weight reduction, but it's something. They also have a more mild tread pattern, which is fine since I mostly drive loose sand, where it becomes more about surface area than bite of the tire.

Does anyone have real world experience with these? Thanks.

No experience with the Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse ATs, but I recently put a set of BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/As on my Lexus RX, and I'm favorably impressed. The modestly aggressive tread pattern on the two tire types looks similar. I like the concept of an on-road all terrain tire.

BFG say that the cuts in the tread not extending all the way to the sidewall make the tires significantly quieter on the road. So far I'll buy that. These are as quiet as the performance road-only Michelins previously on the RX.

Interesting. I've never heard of the Trail Terrains. Those also look like a decent option

I wouldn't put a goodyear on my wheelbarrow. Over 30 years in the auto tech field I have never been impressed with wear or drivability.
I am running my second set of TOYO Open Country AT3's. Geolander is also still a good tire in my experience. I know everyone has their opinion but that's mine.

Yeah I had a sour taste in my mouth after 2 of the wrangler duratracs that came on my truck blew up going 10mph over a pot hole in a parking lot after only a month of ownership. I thought maybe these would be a little more durable because they're E rated. Part of me also felt like it was akin to the "bilsteins" that come stock on the Offroad but aren't anywhere close to the durability/feel of actual offroad oriented bilsteins.
It was the weight savings that really caught my eye honestly.

I have the workhorse tires on my truck (265/75R16). Have had them on for couple hundred miles. No real off-roading done on them, but initial impressions from paved and dirt/gravel roads is good. The shop that mounted them aired them up to 40psi, which made the ride very rough; much better at 32 psi.

If they are LT rated, having at 32psi may be quite a bit under inflated than required...?

P rated you are fine at that PSI!

Thank you for the reply! Their LT tires. I don't think it's a safety issue though; if that's what your implying. It's probably not the ideal or recommended in terms of longevity and mpg but the ride is very rough at 40psi and noticeably better at 32psi. I mostly drive under 50mph on back roads, gravel, dirt. No real highway use. What are your thoughts?
