LOL! Yup ... This looks like 'snake oil' to me... Like 'cable chains' were years ago. A very temporary ... Something, IDK what.
I'm trying to figure out ... how wrapping some sort of gift-wrap over actual tire-tread is an advantage.
I don't see how covering up the tread of real snow tires ... With a proper pattern and siping and etc. is a good thing.

i agree with most of what you say.
chains suck to put on and remove.
they can damage your brake lines, steering linkage, etc if poorly fit or poor clearance (i believe that LT 265-75-16 without lift or clearance mods do not allow enough clearance for chains on stock taco)
premium winter tires are best. even the premium winters have limits.
there is a place for v-chains in certain scenarios.
chains on all 4 wheels allow winter travel on unplowed roads with steep icy conditions (and moderate snow depth).
chains on the front allow for steering control.
eventually when snow is too deep, the truck will not overcome the friction and will ‘float’ on the snow, and you will hang up on the frame etc. chains will not help you then.
i worked in the bush for many years and we relied on chains to get us in and out as required.
our work trucks did not have winches.
when we got stuck, self recovery involved putting on chains and shovelling a path.
often we realized too late that we should have brought the snowmobile instead.
ive never used (needed) chains on highway.
cable chains are generally for passenger cars and are inferior to v-chains.
    just my $0.02.
    there are many scenarios.
i know that chains can be made mandatory on some highways (interstate 5 near shasta)

Ha! Yep, we used to rock chains on the crummy in the winter, and have a hi-lift and planting shovels to get out.. would never get close to my turck with a set.
