I rev the piss out of mine constantly, that certainly helps but sometimes you’re at low speed and there’s no way to rev it like that, and when you ask for some power you just get nothing. Kind of exhausting. Other than at low speed, I am almost always above 3000 rpm and it’s decently fine there. For acceleration I’m never short of 4-6000 and that does decently well.

Damn, I can’t even imagine daily driving at 4-6000 RPMs :) My truck would be so jumpy.

    Haha!

I’m carrying constant weight and on 33s too…

Must be the premium SFOB tune and 94E0 gas? I dunno.

Not sure. No weight here, just lights and 32's. Back to stock tune after trying plenty others (not OVTune). I drive most vehicles at higher rpm anyways, I just enjoy that more in general, but mine feels like a dog down low. 93 octane all the time. It's better than it was on 87, but the thing really only is "good" to me at high rpm...regardless of tune or anything else.

Yeah..the idea of keeping a truck high in the RPM range for just general day to day stuff just seems wrong to me. Maybe because when you hear other dudes hauling ass in their bro dozers I think, “woah look out, Robby Gordon’s favorite protege, comin’ in hot!”

Premium SFOB felt like it added ~30% more torque at low RPMs. Excellent tune, truck is so much fun to drive.

Update that no one asked for: Got a 2.5G 6 days and 1800 miles ago..really pretty surprised just how different they are. Couldn't be happier; there are some small things that will be missed about my '22, but this is exactly what I wanted out of a Tacoma; couldn't find a 4.0 with 6MT around here to try so it was a bit of a gamble, but for a stock rig at least it seems like a really nice combination; I don't even care about the 2-3 MPG loss. Happy for the people stoked on their 3G, but, just not the experience I wanted...

Good to hear! So does it have the immediate throttle down low that the 3rd gen severely lacks? I still haven’t driven one, I need to.

Absolutely, pulling away from corners in 2nd at a few MPH is night and day, great throttle response, and lacks the lumpy powerband too..I really wouldn't want to change a thing, especially if there was even a hint of compromising the Toyota reliability. To use a possibly overused phrase, "It drives like a truck should." Based on our prior discussions, I highly recommend checking one out.

That’s good news for sure. Sounds nice. Only things that would keep me away or at least make me hesitant would be the throw out bearing and transmission quill issues.

Sounds like it drives like my frontier did, which I really enjoyed.

Sounds crazy to go from brand new to this, but mine has 197k on the clock - but it's a pretty cherry high desert, one meticulous owner rig (I also got a super bitchin' deal on it which doesn't hurt). I have all records from day 1, was a HUGE stack and made me nervous to see what's been going on; but it's been nothing but a gas, fluids/filters and tires rig. I guess you'll change some of those over almost 200k. Like a lot of these things, the transmission issues might not be THAT common. And if it does become an issue, the 4G swap might be interesting (assuming the issue that popped up on it is actually a non-issue, but I've not been following closely).

...the huge wad of cash going back to my bank account after I sell the '22 won't bother me either... :)
