Has anyone upgraded an SR or SR5 to push button start? If so - aftermarket? OEM?

Or this too much of a pain in the ass?

I say this because for some dumb reason every time I put my key in - it seems like it needs to be lined up exactly. It's not like it just goes in like most cars. I almost have to jimmy the key into the tumbler.

I think push button start would be an awesome upgrade to my SR5.

I have push to start in another Toyota.

While it's nice while it works, or you don't lose keys, if batteries don't go dead, if you don't get keys wet, etc., it would not be my choice.

Prefer the simple key, mostly because there are rarely repairs needed and low risk of a 'can't turn it over' situation.

Sounds like warranty work to me. At the least a new key. At the most a new ignition lock.

Does it feel this way with both keys? Both keys OE? Then the lock is suspect.

I don't have any personal experience, but given the number of remote start kits that are out there, I have to assume there must be tons of push-button start kits, too. Seems like the kind of thing every local stereo installer would try to sell you...

If I were you I would just do a remote start instead. Sometimes I wish I didn't have push start so that I could have remote start.

Also starting the car while pressing the brake pedal is a pain in the ass sometimes. I sit in my passenger seat during lunch at our jobsite and I have to go to the driver side to turn the truck on. Not a problem, more just an inconvenience.

If your battery goes dead you can still start the truck by pushing the start button with the remote. You can also unlock your doors with the physical key as well.

Remote start would be super nice for these hot summer days too. Get the truck nice and cold before getting outside the building

I kinda hate my push start. It's a pain sometimes if you just want the radio on, or other functions.

I have a push start and a remote start in my 2019 OR AT. The only downside to having both is when you remote start it as soon as you open your door the truck shuts off. Then you have to restart it everytime with the push start. Iwas told bc of safety. With my 2013 SP AT that had a key start and a remote start, it wouldn't shut off of you opened the door. As long as you put the key in the ignition and turned the key to on, the truck stayed on the entire time. The push start is a must have being a welder in South Florida lol

Push button start?? No thanks. I'm good with the intermittent wiper mod. Lack of "Flares" absent fog lights.

I had remote start on my Civic and while it was nice while living in Wisconsin, at some point it started acting up, and then the car got hocked, I got it back on DAY 30, yes the last day before the insurance company called it a total loss - and the dealer had to rekey the entire car obviously, well, somewhere in there the remote start became a nuisance.

I'm glad you're menntioning some of the down sides to push button start - I kinda wanted the cool shankless key fob :D

    Love the push button start.
I don’t have remote start (yet) That’ll be annoying having to restart.

You can actually start the truck or any Toyota/Lexus push to start car from the passenger seat without pressing the brake pedal. While sitting in the pass seat with the key in the vehicle, push the start button once, you will be in accessory mode. Then push and hold the start button again for 15-20 seconds, the truck will start up. My wife does this in my Taco and her Lexus all the time while waiting for me to enter the car and it works in both vehicles.

EDIT: I am pretty sure the vehicle needs to be in accessory mode, but it may also have to be in the on mode by pushing the start button twice, but try it either way, one of them works. I just dont do it much so I dont remember at the moment.

There really isn't any "down sides" to PB Start.

You can still have Remote Start.
You can still start from the passenger side.
You can still use the ACC function without starting the vehicle.
You can still access the vehicle (and start it) with a dead battery in the fob.
So, then engine dies when you open the door, and you have to push the button again (big deal?). The guys with regular keys - they still have to insert the key and turn it?
