Yes! Did complete JL Speaker upgrade. Best improvement was an 8" Sub Woofer! Just had to design a box for the Access Cab!

I guess it's all about your ears and what you listen to. I too had Bose for 20 years and couldn't handle the stock Tacoma system. If I was listening to low volume or talk radio it was OK. It's 1000 times better with some power, sub, and upgraded speakers.

If all you have heard are bose, jbl, and factory systems you are missing out on what a listening experience can be.

So a few weeks ago I installed my new Pioneer 8200NEX radio and with that radio I figured you cant have the stock crappy Toyota speakers so decide to upgrade and got 4 new speakers! JBL GT7-96's 6"x9 3 way speakers for the front and JBL GT7-6 6 3/4 speakers for the rear. Sounds so much better than factory, it's unbelievable how a good speaker can make that much of a difference. All the tinny sound from the factory speakers is all gone!

In for this, $400 is about what I could spend on upgrading my audio.

What's everyone's thoughts on the best amp to go behind the back seat, passenger side?

Would installing new speakers with the factory HU and no amp make any noticeable difference??

Short answer...yes. I guess you could shell out for some decent speakers and slowly build up your system around them if youre on a budget.

Personally, a $400 system "upgrade" especially with JBL speakers seems like a lateral move. But it will be good practice tearing the interior apart for future mods

I honestly think they sound pretty decent for a factory speaker. and I don't have JBL's...and I've built systems in both of my previous cars

Makes you wonder if anyone will come out with head units that can replicate all the integrated functions of the OEM head unit. Or maybe they are out already....I don't know. But you would think if the big players want to remain in the game they are going to have to at some point.

I really don't think it's worth the R&D for those companies to make a deck specifically for one vehicle. market's too small

I agree, but I also think that many of us who used to buy aftermarket units will no longer do so because we prefer to not lose the OEM functionality. I would think most people wouldn't either, so there goes their market. What are they going to do if they don't sell head units?

image.jpg image.jpg I did the jbl speaker upgrade. They do sound better than stock. I will be adding a sub in the future. I had to replace the crappy paper stock speakers with the peanut magnets!
