Yes. Pics would be nice. Thus far. All Ive added is a kicker hideaway sub behind one of my seats and that's far from what I want. Def not good enough.

It's too cold now but next year. I plan on installing a 5 channel amp. A slim 8 or 10 inch sub. Most likely jl audio. As for door speakers. Alpine type r all around with type r tweeters. The amp will provide around 90 rms to door speakers and 500 to rms to sub.

The unit takes speaker level input so no line out converter needed and it came with like a 16 gauge power wire which is connected to better. Not even close to satisfactory but def better then stock obviously. I didn't post pic cuz I didn't think it was worth posting.

Why not mount your amp under the seat.

Just for reference, I reused the front components from my 05 I'm my 16. The adapters used for the 6.5s in the door fit and the tweeter mount is the same but now in the dash.

Door panel and tweeter grill removal is like a 2015 tundra. The tweeter grill needs to be removed carefully, but comes up easily with pry tools.

I also had a small Kicker enclosure from the 05 that fit behind the driver side backseat if you remove the plastic tray and trim a little off the pillar trim.

For what it's worth just this alone really made a difference with the stock HU and rear door speakers. Those appear to be the same size as the 2nd gen btw.

Thanks for the education you are the first to make sense out of this to me.

I think the reason people are jumping to speakers is that they are the simplest component to change out. It's tempting to throw money at the plug and play option.

How complicated is a signal processor to install? Just don't want to have some dumbass (or myself) fuck up the wiring in my new truck.

I can only see myself spending that kind of money on a sound system is if im able to have two 12 inch subs in a proper box, so that would be a no on the the Tacoma. Plus it would have to be a nice luxury car/suv. I'm simple so Lexus Acura or infinity would do.

And two 12s not so much to blast it loud. But so I can have the settings set low and get deep clean bass with minimal excursion.

But yes. Once in a while, blasting two 12s is nice. But like I said. I'm simple so I'm thinkng for the truck, Rockford or kicker amp, alpine Rs are good enough for me. I kno kicker has an iq amp that interfaces with your ipad/iPhone through an app, so no need to even use head unit. Only draw is It connects through Bluetooth. Does Apple device have lossless Bluetooth?? I haven't looked into it yet.

I wanted to see first how I would like it the way I have it. I thought it was going to be enough but I was stupid for thinking that.

When I make this move next year to change out speakers an add amp. Imma see about mounting the kicker speaker under the seat.

Sometimes I just like to chill with my music and I feel like the more subs you have, The better the sound at low volume.

Started laying down the Dynamat and prepping for the ********* box. There is a change with the back cab wall from 2015 and you can see it on the right side of the picture. There's actually 2 of these long vents on either side. It's a long vent for door closure. I'll be able to fit the box, but it will be in the middle. I drilled out the child seat safety brackets and filled the back wall with Dynamat. Will report back after I get the box and begin the install.

I'll be upgrading the stock speakers, but holding off until after I finish the sub.

Bob, the signal processor is not all that hard to install. It installs pretty much like the line converters you see a lot of guys using. Basically you bring in the front and rear speaker wires and a turn on signal. The better ones can take up to eight input channels but will run on as little as two. It has RCA outs to run any combination of amps from there. The magic is really in the software.

We do see a lot of guys wanting the best speakers they can get to replace their "crappy stock speakers". What is always interesting is when they dump that two or three hundred bucks and the system sounds exactly the same. That look of confusion as they try and convince themselves that it sounds better. Problem is that all a speaker really does is reproduce what's it's being sent, and almost any speaker can do it. So if you send a really good set of speakers crap they still sound like crap. Will it sound better? Maybe a little, but only to the extent that a $300 pair of sunglasses blocks the sun better than a $10 pair. They both can do the job.

I am sad to report that I am not blown away by the 6x9 install... Maybe a hair better, but really not impressed. Looks like a signal processor is in order and an amp. A tech owed me some cash so I had him do it while I was working, so no pics, but I only paid $20 so not difficult I guess.

I put in an AudioContols Lcq with an a JL amp on stock door speakers. Also have a JL 13tw5 on a 500/1. It is freakin rediculously clean and LOUD!!. If or when I blow the stock door speakers I'll replace them then.

The guy at the shop that installed it was very impressed with it.

Nice!! What did that run you? I'd like to have a shop do it, the problem is finding a reputable one
in the area - anyone familiar with any in the Richmond Va area?

You need an amp first before the signal processor. Becuase upgraded speakers have bigger magnets and thicker material and if you don't provide enough power. They typically sound worse then your atock speakers without amp.

Most normal people would be satisfied with 5 channel amp. Speakers and subs.

What if you're keeping the stock speakers & head unit?? I'd like a decent Sub & a bigger sound - I know nothing
about car audio and have never replaced anything in there.

So you'll need a line out converter. It'll splice into your stock speakers and provide rca output.

You'll need a mono amp. Probably 300-500 rms. and a power kit to wire to the battery. 8 gauge should suffice.

Last but not least the subwoofer itself. You'll need a slim box design to put behind the seat. Some people modify for more space to install larger set up but imma just buy one that fits and throw it in the back.
Picture below is an example of what I may get.

You should spend around $250+ for amp. $200+ for sub/box. $50 for good power kit for decent sound.

I generally go with Rockford fosgate or kicker becuase they sound good and are cheap.
