Hi TacomaWorld I'm new here and glad to have this resource available. Lots of great info on these boards!

I recently bought a 2002 Taco Crew cab. Been stalking this model for years. I want to be able to lock the tailgate after I put on a cap or tonneau on the bed. I would prefer to do something factory OEM, but it doesn't appear there was ever an option from the factory for a tailgate lock. Please correct me if I'm wrong?

I'm looking at aftermarket solutions. The Pop&Lock gets panned by everyone so I'm staying away from that.

Has anyone tried the "Street Tailoc Tailgate Lock For Toyota Tacoma 1995 - 2004 Street TL14 street"? Check it out at this link:

Bought and installed mine over 4 years ago. I use my truck as a DD and use the tailgate multiple times a day since. Locking and unlocking the popnlock during each use because of the campershell I have on and semi-valuable junk I have in the bed. So far so good and no issue.

That's great. Glad to hear something positive. Your Taco is 1st gen 1995-2004? I ask because the Pop & Lock products for anything 2005-onward appear to be more substantial.

One thing to remember about Amazon reviews. People will often complain but rarely praise products.

Probably the same item from the same factory with a different logo.

Why stay away from something everyone likes? My pop&lock has been great.
