Interesting he also found buildup in the engine--there might be something to the fouled spark plug comments on BITOG. I think I'll stick with Mobil1.

Yeah I saw that as well. He did say he ran 5 tanks through it, and we are looking at a (2 stroke?) lawn mower not a truck. The self cleaning systems could be different. I would be curious to see what the build up looks like without ceratec since an old little push mower like that probably doesn't have any sort of built in self cleaning mechanism such as port injectors and the heat burnoff cycle that a modern vehicle does.

PCV makes sense. Collected matter either gets sent back to oil circuit, or through intake tract dirtying the manifold, or both.
Or hopefully not at all if running a catch can.

or if rings have some blowby

I have a cheap catch can that does collect some stuff over time and just empty it out every oil change

    I am the OP.
I used Ceratec in 2 BMW engines: an N52 (naturally aspirated 6 cyl inline) and in an N54 (turbocharged 6 cyl inline). The turbo engine also used to consume oil (a BMW thing) at a rate of about 1/2qt every 3000 miles or so.
I also added only 1 can in a little over 6.5 qt of oil (6 cyl BMW engines use about 7qt). It was a bit below what Ceratec recommends. Anyway, this stuff was added when both cars had about 100,000 Km (60k miles). So I had a pretty good idea of mpg and oil consumption. Yes, I have no proof. My only proof is my word. And one of the main reasons I used it was because especially the n/a engine (X3 F25) I used in winter. The cold starts were much better. Also, both cars quieted down pretty good, and I mean all the clatter of valve lifters and other components. And also, because apparently the "coating" lasts for an extended period of time, one would add the can every 3d oil change. I started this in 2012 or so (the Ceratec additive). In my experience it worked OK. It's not a "spectacular" change, but for me, stopping the oil consumption, much less engine noise, especially at cold start, and a slight improvement of mpg is worth it. We are close to ending 2023, and both my BMW's I mentioned run extremely well. If that product would grenade the engine, I think I would have witnessed it already. It's been quite a few years. Was curious if any of the Taco community has tried it and if also slight mpg improvement, cold start noise etc is any better. That's all.
I think I will try it on my Taco on the next oil change, then every 3d after that.

well I guess we’ll have to wait and see if folks try it on their Tacoma and if it makes a difference, and what engine. If it’s an engine that should even exist, ie 22R, 22RE, 1GR-FE, and not 3.5L, etc

as the above doesn’t really apply
German car clattering on cold start from oil CCT, burning oil, valve seals leak, etc? Sure

    Tacomas, not really

if the only difference is going from 12.0 to 12.3mpg it’s probably not worth it and attributed to other factors

BG MOA is not a bad additive. It’s also cheaper and more readily available.

I now have about 1,000 miles on my most recent oil change which included a bottle of ceratec liquid molly.
    Here's what I've found:
    - The engine is running noticeably quieter at start up in sub-freezing temps, which is what I wanted from it. I figure a quieter engine with less clatter means less wear and tear. I didn't tell my wife that I used ceratec in my last oil change and unprompted she commented that the truck sounded quieter and asked if I changed something on it.
    - Slightly less gear hunting especially on hilly drives which is a welcome surprise.
    - Gas mileage: TBD. I think it's too early to tell but haven't noticed any meaningful increase or decrease in MPG. Winter gas is garbage for fuel economy to begin with so I may see if it changes once they stations switch back over to the summer stuff.

I put it in at my break in oil change. 23 taco, first oil change at 2300mi. Now let me first say I’m not a believer in additives, conditioners, or any other type of snake oils. I’ve never once put any type of product in any of my vehicles, but I thought I’d give ceratec a try from reading here and also on the 5.0 forums with their “ticking” noise which it’s supposed to resolve or lessen. It made a pretty substantial difference in cold start noise on my new truck. I haven’t cared nor will I monitor fuel mileage increases or anything like that, but on my almost new engine it really quieted cold starts down.

I'd like to back his statement up. I also noticed a lack of money and no difference.

The active ingredient is hexagonal boron nitride. It is similar to graphite but is much more heat resistant. The troubling thing is it settles. Quote from Wikipedia:
