Anyone weld on sliders that were originally bolt-on?

Has anyone welded on their bolt-on sliders?

I have some all-pro sliders that I bought a while ago and had powder coated.
Unfortunately for a bunch of reasons they are still sitting in my front yard.

Yesterday when I was washing the taco it looks like there is rust on the frame along a weld at the bottom.

This is making me very reluctant to install the bolt on sliders because they have a long "L" shape lip that hugs against the frame and this weld will be covered and probably trap water and cause more rust.

I know that the long "L" bracket on the slider can be cut but guessing it might compromise their strength??

I've thought about welding bolt on's too. My thought was this may be even stronger, although the legs would be a far weaker link than the bolts or welds.

Why not scuff the frame and roll over it with some flat enamel or por15? That way your fixing the rust and will have a real easy touch-up if you see any rust down the road.

I should see if they have some pix of the weld on ones and see how different they look, but I might end up doing that with the por15.
It's just another thing to do added to something that I don't want to do!

Part of the problem is that you still have to drill 5 holes per side with the all-pro, and on the driver's side you have to fab some brake line holders.
