I would be on board for a 3.0T like the Ranger Raptor. 50K for a 4 banger, they can keep it.

That’s not really true. The 3rd gen was essentially identical in size to the 2nd.

Edit: You really can’t make it any larger and still be a midsize truck.

It's still a mid-size truck because it is not as wide as a full-size truck. Nor do you sit as high as a full-size truck.

Are you sure Gen 4 is bigger than Gen 3? It actually looks smaller. Both the Xtracab and double cab doors and windows look shorter. Significantly shorter!

Not quite, because its width is not Tundra size. Tundra can't traverse tight off-road trails.

It's not just choice, but practicality. What the point of Xtracab without 4 doors? What the point of a double cab if you cannot fit 4 to 5 people comfortably? Bring back access cab and increase rear leg room for the double cab. Same number of choices, with practically.

We cannot get Hilux because of the chicken tariff. Why it only affects trucks and not SUVs, I'm not quite sure.

I prefer Hilux over Tacoma because it has a stronger rigid frame and turbo diesel engine that gets you 35mpg. So even though it is slightly smaller, you get more than double the gas mileage. That a tradeoff I'm willing to make.

Furthermore, while the Gen 3 Tacoma looks better, the body profile of the Hilux looks more balance and beefier. Not sure if it has to do with the inclusion of the sport bar or not.

Because of the chicken tariff, otherwise the U.S would have Hilux and not Tacoma. Chicken tariff doesn't affect imported SUVs (4runners) and sedans for some reason. Only trucks.

You can, as long as the width isn't increase, and you can still traverse tight trails. For instance, the Jeep Gladiator is bigger than most mid-size trucks but it still much smaller than a full-size trucks. And both the Colorado and Canyon are still noticeably bigger than the Gen 3 Tacoma. You can see the size comparison from the video below. Both are mid-size trucks. Wish Tacoma was that size. Even Gen 4 Tacoma is still smaller.

After watching press reveal videos the consensus was that the wheelbase is longer in some comparative models to the 2023 and roomier interior in all models they were able to get into that day. I'd still wait for Toyota's official specs but it seems it is slightly larger than the 2023 thanks to the new frame platform.

But why does the rear doors and windows look shorter? I know it is bigger (TRD Pro) because of the increase in width, but I think Sheldon mentioned that the length of the overall truck is still the same length as Gen 3. This is so that it can still fit in most garage.

The rear door for both cab configurations looks unfinished to me, compared to Gen 3. My biggest worry is like with the new Tundra. The new Tundra is actually shorter and smaller than the previous Tundra. And the previous Tundra was already the smallest in its class compared to the big 3.

I cannot wait for official measurements. My eyes could be deceiving me. I'll be very happy if that is the case. Just hope I can afford the TRD Off-road model.

Yeh, best to wait for official numbers but it looks like it is larger in and out.

This is literally the longest summer ever. Every day I check for new Tacoma video almost religiously. 9 years of waiting and it is finally here! Still bum I couldn't get a Tacoma in my 20's. I rewatched the 2024 Tacoma commercial at least 10 times now.

Chicken tax shouldn’t affect a global style Hilux, if it was built in Mexico or another NAFTA country. It’s to prevent the importation of foreign trucks, it says nothing about which blueprints can be used to build trucks in Mexico, the US, and Canada.

Oh. Yeah, I was thinking about it being built in Japan (because what I want). I want the same quality Hilux that the rest of the world get.

Build it in Mexico with foreign components and sell it in the US. Tariff free. I don't think the Hilux meets US crash standards.

I don't think the Hilux has been made in Japan since around 2004.

I think it's made in Thailand or someplace like that.

Just one of many reasons it makes no sense to increase the size of the Tacoma. If you want a bigger Tacoma, just get a Tundra.

I thought about it, but the new Tundra is butt ugly! Though it only needs a mid-gen refresh, but Toyota doesn't do that. They aren't Subaru or Mazda.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
I'm perfectly happy with the size of the current Tacoma.

What did you not like about the new Tundra's looks?

If it's the front end, somebody swapped the Sequoia front end onto the Tundra.

And Toyota absolutely does mid-gen refreshes what were you talking about?

Front end and the cabin being much smaller. It is a smaller truck than the outgoing model.
