Has anyone who has gone up to 33's noticed a difference in the odometer/speedometer? Is there a thread I have missed? Has anyone corrected this ..is it as easy as the jeeps were, ie change out the gear in the tranny?DSCN1339.jpg

10% rule. You're going 10% faster than the speed says.

With my 315s, if it's indicating 65 I'm actually doing 75. Verified with gps and other cars matching my speed.

tnx...Im using the GPS also..was more concerned about the odometer reading/correction.....most trans for the jeeps had a table with tire size vs new speedo gear...just wondered if the Toyota folks had a like wise easy source of info.....seems my trip odometer is off quite a bit.....

Kinda old news that most of us have known about for years. You don't have to change tires sizes. A new set of tires will be about 5% different that the same tires when they are ready to be replaced. Within limits the trucks computer can be reprogramed to compensate.

Here is a good link to figure out the differences.

Depending how fast I'm going, could read 5-12km/h, verified by a GPS.

The stock computer assumes you're running stock tires, so a larger tire is going to read faster/farther than stock.

I've seen a few thread on here about the Dakota Digital SGI-5E, so you might look into it. Hypertech also makes a speedometer calibrator, so that is another option.

Personally, I have an UltraGauge and use it to read speed/distance off the OBD2 port and show corrected values. I don't care what the actual speedo/odo read. The Scangauge another option. I don't have one and can't say for sure if it will show corrected values, but I assume it will.

I can verify that Scanguage II can be set up to correct for tire size. You determine the difference from stock in percent, and enter that.

315 is the width, which doesn't mean anything unless you tell him the rest of the tire specs.

Mine runs 3 mph off. I have to run 67 to be at 70 on the interstate. It's 3 mph off at any speed, not a percentage.

I am running 285/65r18 & my fuel reading seems to be off as the gas flies out like if it has a leak

As far as the speedo I have used a gps and I am off by 3mph.

You are actually traveling a few more miles from what your odometer reads. I have used two different gps and I actually travel about seven more miles per one hundred. One hundred miles on the odometer is actually one hundred seven. 200=214 and so on...

Most Tacoma (and other manufacturers) products have speedometer error of 2-3 mph to avoid lawsuits (ie but officer my speedometer said I was doing xx mph). Odometers with oem size tires usually have virtually no odometer error with new tires, but error does occur as tires wear. The two (speedometer and odometer) are independent of each other. Put on larger (diameter) tires, and error increases.

So I guess that means odometer and gas mileage calculations are 10% off too.

From the factory on stock tires, my odometer was dead on. The speedometer was fast by 2-3 mph. If it read 60, I was actually doing 57-58.

It absolutely is a percent when comparing tire sizes to actual speed and therefore you mileage and mpg will be off by the same percent.
