I have a 98 2.7L 4x4 manual with stock gears 3.58.... I have 31" tires and it is really geared wrong. They really should be 4.10.

I would love to put 4.10 or 4.30 but they are tough to come by.

Does anyone have 4.56 gears with 31" or 32" Tires. Is this too low of a gear for driving on the highway? I would like to drive 80mph with decent gas mileage and decent power. I prefer not to have really high RPM. Although with 3.58 and 31" Tires I often run it in 4th gear with about 4000 RPM. So if it is less RPM than that at 80mph in 5th gear that would be great!

My vehicle is a daily driver so highway performance is 1st priority and off road is second.

I have read different websites and forums and everyone suggest something different.

Really looking for someones opinion who has 31" Tires with 4.56 gears

    - I really appreciate it!

That helps.... but I am really looking for real world answers instead of theory. Although it is pretty close to what my engine RPM with my gear ratio is now

    Thanks!!!

Approx what engine RPM do you have at 80 MPH?... if you recall and have a odometer.

    Thanks

I'm 5 lug with 456's and 32" tires pullin 70mph when the speedo says 80 if that helps. It is a bit buzzy on the freeway. In the slow speeds it is about 5mph off.
