Anyone with a 3" lift downsize from 285's to 265's (70/17)? Any regrets?

If you have downsized do you have any regrets? Pros or cons in doing so?
    Thanks

I have 285/50's, and I was happy to go back to 265. Mind that my tacoma never left the pavement very much.

I don't go off road either, I like the look of the 285's but I have seen some Tacomas with 265 (70) that I like as well. In saying that I have also seen 265's (70) that in my opinion look too small. The type of tire must make the difference??? Maybe a more aggressive AT tire versus a typical road tire.

If I could find a 265 that I liked and saved some fuel cost it would be a win win.

I found that with the 285 I needed to have them stick out a big to fit properly. This meant that the vehicle would shimmy back a forth in roads with tire indentations.

I have found the same with the wider tire. It's also difficult to keep the side of the truck clean with the tires coming out past the fenders.

We get a lot of deep snow during the winter and although the tires are ok in the snow a narrower tire would cut through versus the wider tire that wants to ride on top. I have two cars one belonging to my wife and the other to my daughter that I store tires for and switch between summer and winters. I don't want to store another set of tires so I want the truck to have one tire for all seasons.

My current tires will do me until next summer and then I think I will give serious thought to the 265's.

I went from 285/70r17 back to 255/75r17 and am much happier.

Better acceleration, stopping and fuel mileage. A 48 pound tire versus a 38 pound tire is a big difference.

I recently switched from Firestone Destination AT 285s to Hankook Dynapro ATM 265s with no regrets. Better braking, better acceleration, it no longer wants to drop a gear going up hills, and better steering response. I'm still using the same KMC Addict wheels, 17"x9" with 4.5" of back spacing. It took me a couple days to get used to the look but now I think these tires look much better.

Any pictures? Any issues going with the 75 versus 70.

275 are heavy and limited in selection, I am not opposed to a 255 though.

I did the opposite actually, but when I had 265/70r17, it was fine. I wanted the 285s for offroad, plus they look better IMO. The key is to pick an aggressive tire.

I like the beefy look of the 285 but I don't do any off road and would like to see if I could get into a smaller tire, keep a nice stance and maybe see better mileage. If I baby the truck I am lucky to get 290 miles to a tank. In the colder weather that drops to about 250.

You definitely want 265s then. Like I said, they did great when I had them but I just wanted bigger because that's just who I am.

Pick an aggressive tire, like the KO2s, or the Grabber AT2s, and don't get above a load C. The weight of the tires is what kills MPGs. My General Grabber AT2s were Standard Load (I think equivalent of P rated) and they did great, even off-road.

When going to a narrow but taller tire, does that cause issues with rub? I have fuel rims and want to keep them on the truck but no sure of the tire size versus the rim I currently have......

My truck is a 2012 but I purchased it in 2013 after the mods had been completed.
