Anyone with a 3" lift downsize from 285's to 265's (70/17)? Any regrets?

Did you see much of a difference in fuel consumption going to the 285s? I see some who have posted in other sections that have said they are running 265s and they don't seem to get much better than what I get. The difference may all be in the usage of the skinny pedal on the right

I think the big factor is weight. My new tires are 15lbs heavier each and I dropped a couple mpg. Mine is constantly fluctuating because I'll have stuff in my bed, or a camper shell, or a basket, etc. For example, on my last tank I got a 1.7 mpg increase from the camper shell alone (aerodynamics). I'm happy to get 220 miles before I have to refuel.

So to answer your question, yes, I have noticed a drop in MPG from going to 285s. I'm currently getting 13mpg of all city driving with my 6 speed.

I have a shell on mine that stays on, my truck is my mobile dog kennel. The cap adds weight but as you mentioned more aerodynamic. The boy is a bit spoiled.......

This ^^^ (but mine are way heavier, and I still get excellent mpgs - for a Taco)

The 33" 255s work best on stock spec rims - it keeps them in the wheel well. The narrower tire has less swing when turning, so tends to rub less. Using wheels that push the tire outward negates this, it's a taller tire and you may actually see more rubbing - there's a good chance it will hit the edge of the fender when flexing, too.

I'm thinking about going to a 265 from a 285 also since 99% of the time I'm on the road. Mostly just want to get rid of my mud terrains because I have no use for them in socal.

I have 275, 70,17 BF Goodrich KO2 they seem OK with a rough country 2 1/2'' left on the front and 1 1/4'' on the back. Still get 18.0 to 19.0 mpg.

If you dont really go offroad, the only good thing about 285s is how they look. I went from stock 265/70 to 265/75, lucky for me I found that the Duratracs made to much noise on the highway for me and I exchanged them for 285s. I feel a 3" lift with 265s looks like its tires are small(since they would fit with no lift). But, this is a very subjective topic, best left to your personal choice.

I agree. For me, the cons far outweighed the pros. Rubbing, worse gas mileage, worse braking, more wallowing and unresponsive in corners, and the tires stuck out far enough to fling road debris on the side of the truck thus compromising paint longevity.

They did look good but I think my new 265s look even better.

265s on a 3" lift only look small in pictures. They look good and very size appropriate in person. The extra gap in the wheel well makes it look lifted. But as you said, very subjective.

I've never had 285's. But I did go from 265 to 255 (granted, 31" to 33" tire size). I think my truck looks pretty good!

20160924_125131.jpg My tires stick out a bit past the fenders due to the 4.53" backspacing and 9" width but they don't fling rocks at the cab like my 285s did.

I have 265 duratraks now. Their too loud. Just ordered 275 70 17 Cooper AT3 as they come in a C load. I'll post a pic once their installed.
