You miss the point. This is a tiny grade that no one would call a hill in any sense. And no other vehicle I drive even on the same course hints at a downshift... but the Taco bangs down 2 gears? Frankly I found it to be bizarre. Maybe the TSB flash fixes that but I would need to drive one before I believe it.

I have a 2017, which I believe has this TSB flash that everyone is talking about, and I have never driven a 2016. That said, I don't have any crazy gear shifting. It downshifts right when I feel it would begin to bog. No complaints.
That said, my wife's Ford Escape w/ the 2.0T engine (similar numbers on paper to Toyota 3.5) shifts less.. but it also spools up that turbo instantly and gets significantly less gas mileage. A turbo version of our engine would be great I suppose to give some more torque down low, but that's also another $5-10k easily and really not necessary for most.

Agree with Raylo. What I find is that the car upshifts so quickly then it has to immediately downshift on even the slightest grades. Quite frankly it's an awful design, this Atkinson cycle thing. The truck feels like it has 12 gears, not 6 because of switching from Atkinson cycle to Otto cycle. And after all that it doesn't really even improve your mileage. The truck is just severely underpowered. I did take mine for a long test drive but probably like a lot of other folks I became enamored with the new design and the new bells and whistles. Unless I'm on the highway I always use Sport mode and shift manually, that is the only way to keep my sanity. I had an '07 and I'd give anything to put that engine in this truck. I'll have to look into the TSB for sure.

I've owned all three generations and like my 2016 BBP by far the best. I had 160 k miles on my 2007 "four door" and my 2016 came with many of the upgrades I had made to my 2007.

I had a 2015 TRD sport. Access cab. 6MT. Stock suspension but a more aggressive MT tire. I absolutely loved it, but I impulse bought a 2016 4Runner TRD Pro. Now I'm back to a 2017 Tacoma TRD OR. 6MT. I love it much more than the 2015. Just as exciting to drive. The tech package is awesome. Def doesn't seem to have the same low end power as the previous generation, but I'm running a BP51 kit with 285 75 16s and stock gearing. Planning to re gear soon so.. both great trucks. I'm kinda spoiled with all the bells and whistles on the gen 3

I had a 2008 doublecab sport which I loved. Took great care of it and unfortunately the frame had rust on it but not enough to get replaced. I looked at al 17 on a whim and when they met my numbers I took it. no regrets at all for I felt I was just taking to big of a risk with the frame b.s. Now if I would have gotten a new frame I would more than likely have kept it. If you consider a 3rd Gen I am impressed with the entune radio and suggest at least getting that.

I loved my '11 and '14 TRD Sports. And I love my '17 TRD Pro. They're pro's and cons to each. '11 and '14 were pretty much the same truck. The '17 is diff...quieter, different suspension, different ride, more extras. I have enjoyed all of them. And I have no regrets on getting the '17. Love it.

I started with a 2010 base 2.7 . Was under powered for my tasted and then two kids came along. Traded in for a 2010 v6 pre runner double cab long bed. Made a mistake not getting a 4x4. Five months ago I traded in again for a 2017 sr5 v6 auto 4x4 short bed. 7k miles I like the truck more than ever.
The only thing I miss about the 2010 pre runner is the top mounted oil filter. The cabin is nicer, the ride is good. I love this truck!

Not even a second. My previous Tacoma was a 2009 TRD OR , will not ever look back again.
Only regret I have now is not picking a 4x4 just to save couple thousands.
So far and after 1 year and 16k miles Im very happy and 0 issues with my trunk.
