I installed a BakFlip Revolver X2, which is a low profile hard roll up cover. The tonneau rails replace the Tacoma bed rails, and these in turn, are re-mounted lower, utilizing special brackets. This allows you to use the original factory bedrails with no clearance issues for the cleats. Not sure if BakFlip trifold covers utilize the same system.

I have a BakFlip MX4 and it lowers my factory rails as well.

I've been looking at this one for a while now and really want it for my Tacoma. How much did it cost you if you don't mind me asking. How easy is the install?

I installed a Fold A Cover G4 Elite on my 2017 long bed access cab. Also had one on my 2013 long bed access cab. Did a 5,000 mile trip from California to Minnesota and back last December till this January with the bed loaded with stuff both ways with no problems. Highly recommended.

I have the Extang EnCore (it is a low-profile, hard panel tri-fold) and I love it. It is a little pricey but worth it to me. You can open it from the front or the back and it is completely lockable (uses the tailgate as the back lock so the tailgate needs to be locked for it to be secure). It has channels on the rails that lead to hoses that you run through your bed for draining to keep the rain out of the bed. I didn't install these at first because I didn't want to drill two 3/4 inch holes in the bed of the truck. After raining, the bed would have a little bit of water in it. I finally installed the drain lines and have been through multiple rains and no water has gotten in the bed. You are still able to use the factory bed cleats with this cover installed. It folds up and can be completely removed easily by one person. I don't currently have any pictures of it but can take some if anyone needs to see it.

Hey there. I'm getting this factory-installed tri-fold cover, and appears to be this same one. Since I hear that the accessory rails are removed and then you reinstall them to brackets that position the rails slightly lower than they initially were, have you found that you have to make sacrifices with the types of accessories you can use now (e.g., bed dividers, bed racks for canoes or other things, bed extenders, etc.)??? ......or can you essentially only use the tie-down cleats without a problem?

i just recently got a BAKFLIP G2 trifold cover and it is absolutely siiiiick looking. it will run you about 800-1000$. I especially love it because it sits flush within your bed and not on top of the bed.

conversely, i have the Extang Encore and prefer the way it sits on top... it looks like an improved sleeker OE tonneau, looks totally stock but way better than the blocky OE one. these are both nice, just a preference thing. i almost bought the G2.

I have the OEM and only had a problem leaking after a wash once, that was due to not pressing down on it to hear the "second click." ever since, I haven't had a problem.

I have the factory Rugged Cover2. It's not as flush as I would like, but it works like a charm. I have seen them work well on Gen2s for years now. I saw the new OEM one (that says "Tacoma" on it), and it looked cheap and appeared to be warped. Caveat emptor!

How did it fail? It is bolted to the bed frame. Did the bolt break? Was it folded up or folded down?

Just bought a used oem one 3 weeks ago.

I am getting 24-26 mpgs doing 80mph on the highway. Only con is it's not 100% water proof as there is some daylight in the corners by the cab. Other than that it locks up solid and looks great.
