Hi like the title suggests, if you have or had issues with the headunit in your 16-18 tacoma please post. The dealer has replaced mine 2x and is blaming other factors such as led pod lights (aftermarket) etc even though they were not tied into factory wireing. The toyota tech also agreed that the pods were not causing the issue. Please post this could really help me out.

No issue with mine ('17). If it's not your than it's the unit. Did they actually replace it or just pull it out press a reset button then put it back? In my old mustang, there was a reset button on the back of the radio. Dealer said they replaced it when it stopped working. I did this twice until they admitted to just pressing the reset button on the back.

IDK if Toyota has something like this.

What is wrong with it? As in what is it doing?
There has been a lot of issues with the Entune system and tons of USB flash updates to eliminate resetting and freezing

Mine continually kept restarting for no reason about 2-3 times a day. Also kept losing my saved equalizer settings at random times. They did a software update that didn't fix the problem. Replaced the head unit - or so they said - twice and that didn't fix the problem. I got fed up and got rid of the truck after that.

All aftermarket accessories have been completely removed from the vehicle by me and the dealer yes they replace the head unit twice both were remanufactured they did some troubleshooting by sticking a brand-new unit from another truck off the lot in mine and it had no issues they put my head unit in the brand-new truck off the lot and it had issues which leads me to think that it is not the wiring harness and such like they say it is

If you have Entune.. good luck.

Entune has been a restarting, freezing shit show for a decade.

The dealer also remove the remote start which they had installed and they repaired the splice into the ignition wires sent photos of the fixed splice to Toyota and the Toyota technicians/engineers acknowledge the fix and said that that was OK they are now giving me a hard time and highlighting things out of my owners manual such as aftermarket accessories etc. etc. even though that seems to not be the cause

All I'm asking for is for them to put a brand-new head unit and not a remanufactured in my truck but they are not acknowledging this.
I'm also having some transmission issues and they say that normal characteristics of the truck etc. etc. I'm trying to get them to stand behind it with an extended warranty

As I have said 10000 times dealers can and will tell people to pound salt due to aftermarket equipment...

anyways WHAT SPECIFICALLY IS WRONG WITH IT??? WHAT IS THE ISSUE THAT IT HAS??
You never actually stated what it was doing

Also after over 800 posts you have been around TW a while. Does the service you received really surprise you?

Wow... they replaced with a head unit from another truck and it worked fine and the original one doesn't work in the other truck and it's YOUR fault... wow... ask them to keep the old one, give you the one that works and get a new one for the new truck they pulled it from.

problem solved... why are they overthinking....?

The headunit originally ate my cds ( never rebboted or anything, just cd issue which i could have lived with i had a trick to getting them out. But brought it up at service date anyways. They duplicated the problem and replaced the head unit. The replacement unit(remanufactured) constantly reboots and sometimes doesnt even turn on. So they replaced it again, and had the same issue. They said theres no way we had 2 faulty radios and its your fault. But yet when. Brand new (not reman) is installed it works fine.

Call Toyota corporate and politely complain... reason they put the steal in stealership. Go over the heads of the dickwads, go corporate.

I have gone corporate with a camvap claim, and filed. They are denying my claims eligibilty due to the fact that i had aftermarket equipment installed.

Ohhh ouch... Magnisun Moss deal.... they have to prove its your aftermarket stuff that caused the head unit... I'd be talking to my lawyer.

How much $$ did they want for the head unit that actually worked?? They can't show you one that works and then ... "ooops not for you"... I'd be at my lawyers office like last week.

Call Corp again and very politely explain the situation to a CASE MANAGER not the people that answer the phone. Explain that the aftermarket stuff was installed by the dealer and explain where they put a new radio in and it was ok. Explain that your a good customer and ask them to PERFORM A GESTURE OF "GOODWILL".
They will know what that means.
