I think with the more aggressive tires you tend to run on a truck, this stuff is going to happen. My 2000 Tacoma had the sand blasted look, exactly like the OP's pic, and i had the mudflaps on from new.

On my 09' i bought the side steps right out of the gate for both door ding and chip protection and they work like a champ for both.

Im having a recently noticed issue as well. I bought the truck late last summer, it is stock other than a Wicked Flow muffler and an AFE Pro Dry. Mud flaps still there, same tires and have not been offroading yet. Yet I have several paint chips. One is on the rear driver side door about 6 inches from the bottom( Access cab), one is slightly on the passenger side of the hood towards the back end, and another is on the tail gate. They all about the same size roughly 1/4" circle. Something does seem a lil odd considering the above and it has 8k miles. I also take great care of my cars washed usually once a week at home, waxed every other month. I wonder if this is another hit or miss issue, anybody else got something similar??
