I would hold off on the tune if they are that far away since ott will be revising the tune. Would hate to get it tuned only to have to meet back up for a reflash with the upgraded changes. May want to ask Justin with OTT when they think the changes will be coming. Even a 4hr drive it is honestly worth it that’s how much of a difference it makes night and day best money I spent on the truck besides topper and re gear

Oh, I misread your original post. So they're coming out with a 2.7L Revision? I may wait then. I hit up Cody, he was the Michigan tuner for OTT I found. Is Jusin the one who owns the rights to the software or something?

Yes I believe either Justin owns OTT or is one of. You will find an OTT thread Justin is great just post up the question. The v6 tune has had more development obviously because of the popularity. The 2.7 tune has been out a bit but the guys over at OTT got one on the dyno not too long ago and to my understanding they required additional tools from VF to be able to get more gains in the low/mid range. I know VF was releasing those tools this month so it should be in the near future. The tune that is out is fantastic but I believe there is some good upgrades/changes coming

I’ve run 3 different sets of tires on my 2016 SR5 AT and 2020 OR MT. Here is the hiway fuel economy I saw with each. There is a direct correlation between this and rolling resistance.

    P245/75r16 A/S: 24 mpg (SR5)
    P265/70r16 A/T: 18 mpg (OR)
    LT255/85r16 E M/T: 16 mpg (OR)

CAVEAT: some of the difference is due to the difference in transmission, the chin strap, and a 1-2” lift on the OR.

Conclusion: there is upwards of a 50% (0.04 gallons per mile vs 0.06) difference in the rolling resistance of an all season vs an E load mud terrain. I can feel the difference in acceleration.

Well after finding out the Coopers come in both XL and E I can compare the two ratings on the exact same tire. Granted I only ran the XLs for a week but was fortunate enough to have rain and mud in the desert during that time.

The XLs feel nimble on the road, but do feel like they squat or flex down more on the outside rear tires in the corners than the Es. They don't track grooves in the highway either. I did wear 1/32 of tread off in 375 miles I had them. Call me crazy but I think that they may have gotten just a smidge louder as I was listening on the final ride.

Off road aired down to 20 psi the tires felt the same as my Yokohama Es at 15 psi. They absorb the rough stuff really well, and showed no abrasions in the 100ish miles I went off road. They performed as well in our Arizona clay type mud as any tires I've ever owned. In other words if you're gonna get stuck, neither MT or AT tire makes that much of a difference at my horsepower and tire size.

They grip better in 2wd off road than anything I can remember in the last 35 years, and make playing"desert racer" no fun cause my 4 banger struggles with the aforementioned grip. ThIs grip really continued even in the rain. I can break em loose in the corners but not like before.

As for the Es, they feel stiff in corners like I'm use too, and I can feel those good old expansion joints on the highway again. These tires are ever so slightly louder than the XLs, but nowhere near the noise level of any mud tire I've owned. They're even quieter than some BFG KO2s I had on a Sequoia a few years ago. My guess is the Es are a harder rubber compound and I'm guessing they will get loud when they wear down to the sipping.

Now for the part we've all been waiting for. My scientific 1/4 mile run and emergency braking test. My redneck butt-o-meter sadly isn't calibrated down low enough to catch any difference in the two in that department. Sorry!:turtleride:

All this said I'm liking these tires in both ratings and if I didn't get out normal towing or cell service as often as I do I'd still be running the XL rated tires.

So I installed them - it runs fine lol, the internet blows things out of proportion
. I barely notice a difference other than it’s a bit harder to turn, still as slow as before no real difference. SOOO HAPPY with it!!!

Agreed. Not saying anyone’s personal experience is invalid, but it’s entirely anecdotal….including mine. I’ve gone back and forth close to probably 4 or 5 times at this point between switching wheel set ups amongst other things and only noticed a difference in acceleration, bumps, and cornering when going to E-range.

Never had a noticeable change in mpg (18 mpg in winter and 19/20 mpg in summer). Driving is almost always 50/50 city and highways with frequent weekend trips over mountain passes.

yeah I imagine 285’s or bigger would really be a dog. These aren’t as bad as I thought they were gonna be from these comments. It’s a little slower off the line, but this 2.7 is quite torquey down low so it still does a great job. Went down the freeway twice (2 miles each way). Took a little longer to get up to speed but it felt pretty much the same as stock, stock also needed the pedal to the floor to really get going at any reasonable pace too- so no real difference. Haven’t noticed any decrease in braking but I’m sure it’s there. If anything it feels less squirmy in the back, I like it. Ride’s fantastic.

I was going to get an alignment but now I’m wondering if it’s even necessary, pulls straight as an arrow .

OP please report back with some numbers, e.g. fuel economy, 0-60 time, etc.

Also, I don't think you mentioned what tires you started with. Did you go from a P SL all-season to a LT E all-terrain?

Just filled up the tank, I'll update on how fast I burn thru this one. I upgraded from the Toyo stock SR wheels that came on it, they were High Country's not sure of the specifics other than they were 245/75/16. Probably an SL All season if I had to guess. Yes, I went to an LT E tire, a big difference. The truck feels fine - don't feel like it's struggling anymore than it did in stock form.

Hiway mileage would be best since it isn't as much affected by inertia, traffic, etc. The numbers I listed were from multiple long (~180 mile) road trips. The mileage was pretty consistent trip to trip with the same tires.

Yes the stock tires on the SR5 and SR are P245/75r16 SL all-seasons. Mine were Firestone Destinations, but the toyo's are probably similar.

"Feel" is subjective and unreliable, but ultimately what makes one happy. I can definitely feel the difference and the numbers back that up. I put my A/Ts back on a couple weeks ago and the truck feel like a race car in comparison (I'm exaggerating). I knew the mud terrains were going to suck on the road and that;'s why I kept the all-terrains. This habit comes from my experience with bicycle tires.

Oh yeah, the truck feels a bit slower off the line, but the 2.7 is very torquey, and still feels great. I didn't have a reaction of "oh man this feels like crap or is slow". But it also feels a lot more planted compared to those 245's. I feel like braking is unchanged, but I'm sure it is probably a bit worse. Overall, the noise is great. The ride comfort is better than before, I don't bounce around as much as I did on those 245's, and I got a free 1" lift! I haven't driven it too much yet to tell, but so far it feels and shifts the same as stock, 1-60 feels unchanged, if anything, feels better because before it would shift, then downshift, then upshift again, and feels a bit more consistent in the city. Highway, I normally use ECT because stock sucks, or I'll do sport mode and shift manually when I want to, but ECT felt good. Uphill, doing 75, had to put the gas pedal down, but I would also have to have done that in stock. Didn't feel like it did it any worse or slower than before, but I'm sure it's sucking more gas lol.

Luckily I don't tow, and never will. So I'm sure this won't really affect me as much. I can imagine if you tried towing a trailer it would be slow as balls lol. I always felt like this engine is just slow though, but so far the tires don't seem to affect it as much as I thought it would based on the comments, which I'm thankful for.

Do you think I should get an alignment to be safe, or if it drives straight send it?

It is a nice looking boat anchor lol as long as you’re happy with it that’s all that matters. Highway will be noticeable difference anywhere else is negligible. Your 2 or 4wd? I just assumed you were a 4wd truck.

My '09 (with 2.7l engine) got a consistent 25 mpg with the load range E tires, size 265/75R16. The '20 got 22 mpg (with the same tires). That was in the Arizona mountains. The mileage in my '20 is closer to 18 or 19 in Knoxville, TN. 4WD in both vehicles.

Yeah, today we had myself, my girlfriend, our dog, and a bed full of firewood. The truck did fine, was it slow? Yeah, but it worked out fine. ECT mode helps a lot on the freeway, even in stock form I used it almost exclusively.

A tune is $400, I may consider it down the road, but I like the warranty for now. The gear hunting on this truck is somewhat frustrating, but around the city it does great - it's the freeway between 4th and 5th it just doesn't know what it wants to do. I end up just shifting manually, seems to work better that way. I felt the same in stock, uphill, on an incline, the truck sucked even in stock form. The adaptive cruise makes it worse. Tires don't seem to impact it nearly as much as I thought, super happy with it. I feel confident riding on strong tires too, I had so many flats over the years it's unreal, same with cracked windshields lol. That said, the truck still feels quite torquey around town and when I put my foot down (as "torquey" as the 150hp can be LOL).

Getting an alignment done, and window tint tomorrow. Happy with the build so far :)
