Mrmojorisingi, mine is an auto. My question and concern is if in the 3rd gens, is it normal for the rpms to be going back and forth like the video instead of holding a steady rpms when you are in 4lo/1st and going down a steep hill. I also currently own a 2nd gen taco, 1st gen tundra and 2003 4runner and multiple toyota 4x4s in the past and they have always held rpms nicely between 1200-1500 when you need to crawl down a steep hill without having to touch gas or brakes. 1st gear would always hold the truck back while the engine is braking without speeding up, but in my 18' as you can in the video see keeps reving to 2500 before it catches itself and slows the truck down and repeats that cycle over and over.

From my experiences, the truck should just be steadily holding the rpm and letting itself crawl slowly without the truck gaining any speed at all. Seems like some a mix of some experiencing the same and some not at all.

Ah that makes it a little clearer. I think the DFCO is the best explanation. At least it doesn't upshift and kick you out of 1st...

Heavy truck + steep hill + not a fucking diesel with crazy high compression (engine breaking ability) + 3.91 rear + 4lo gearing = high rpms fast. I recommend using your breaks. End story.

    it ain’t even Friday yet....
