I've been waiting for parts that were "back ordered" and now they are saying the parts were canceled by Toyota and that they are making new sensors because the ones they were using for replacements are having issues also. Not sure if I believe the dealer or not. Anyone heard of this?

Not sure what's going on, the technology is not rocket science, I know it's fairly new to tacoma but the tech is old, other vehicles have been using it for years, there isn't a lot of other vehicles that have constant issues with the sensors like tacoma. I think toyota went super cheap trying to save money in this area, I also think it's a stupid design flaw that the rear bumper sensors are exposed to anything the tires fling up there. My monitoring system stopped working when I went on a trip in the winter, I had some packed snow and ice on it, after I got back I put heat source bear them to melt all ice, after that was done and dry still did not work. Took it in and they said one of them were out of alignment. Got it fixed and on my way. Recently it happened again on another trip, it was just raining though. Stopped the car at one point and it worked again. Continue my triphone and it stopped working again for good. When I get back I'm going to have a talk with toyota, rain should not mess with these sensors, if that's the case they need to develop some kind of shield or partial closed bumper on the back side that gourds the sensors. Maybe I'll make something.

I have a '16 Tacoma TRD Sport and the BSM stopped working after a snowstorm. Took it into the dealer & they want $250 to take off the bumper to check the system, no guarantees about cost after that. They said that there is "damage" to the bumper so it's not under warranty! I looked, there is a little mark that 10 mins buffing could take out. I told them I wasn't impressed, it's a 4 x 4 for frig sake and if the system is that wimpy then they need to fix it.

Mine quit working but it was because of freezing rain. When the ice melted it worked fine.

Mine (17 TRD Pro) just popped up tonight with a little over 300 miles on the odometer. Turning off and on didn't solve it. It was working fine prior to this

EDIT went back to repark the truck and all is clear...wtf

Yeah, the issue is sometime the alignment move a just enough to disable it for a bit, as you drive it will vibrate back to Spec, it's an annoyance that I still deal with here and there, next time I'm just going to have them realign and make sure it's tight!

Dealer should do a realignment/recalibration of the sensor under warranty. I'm curious how much they are going to want for that procedure once we're past 36k miles though.

I guess you'll know something is wrong when you hit something. So far, I've been lucky with my TACO! Sad to read all these complaints

We had a big storm last weekend and I drove about 1k miles in snow and ice. Sensor error came up. Back home I washed the truck thoroughly, and a week later its still not working. Will schedule with the dealer at this point I guess. Does anyone know if the redesign mentioned above has come out yet?

Had problems with mine for the last 2 weeks saying not available I believe. Happened right after snow/cold spell here. After reading the posts on here and warmer temps I decided to clean underneath the rear bumper with a garden hose. Guess what it is now working again thank you TW, saved me from a trip to the dealership!

I very lightly bumped into my wife's Prius with my $42,000 TRUCK. Her car is totally fine. My truck on the other hand apparently has thousands of dollars of damage to repair the BSM monitors. Check out the attached photo.. hardly anything. Remember when bumpers could actually bump something. Then I read that Toyota places these sensors just inside the plastic bumper where they can easily get damaged.. probably on purpose to make more money when they often need to be fixed/replaced. Pretty annoyed right now. Oh... and then Portland Toyota charged me $140 to look at it and tell me it was misaligned and then to take it to a body shop. So much for my "tough" TRD Tacoma.... Grrrrr

Has anyone figured how to allign these sensors? Seems like this will be a reocurring problem as these trucks age. My 16 just started today. I tell you the warning that keeps popping up 5 seconds after I acknowlege it is more infuriating than the damn problem.

Mine just starting showing this today while cruizing down the interstate. Shows Blind Spot Monitoring System Not available on dash and the warning light is on. I just turn it off adjust my mirrors a bit more and drive on.
It's annoying as hell when the light comes on and won't go away. I will await my next service appt as its still under warranty.

I had to take my 2016 in 3 separate occasions for this exact issue. Only the dealer can correct it, and once you’re out of warranty I don’t even wanna know how much it would cost.

Went out randomly once, one time in the rain, and once in the snow. Hopefully you guys figure out how DIY this issue for future members.

There is a tsb for the blind spot monitors not working. The problem is with the wiring harness. There is a poor splice in the harness that allows water to corrode the wires causing an intermitant problem. I believe it affected all 16 and some 17 Tacoma's. Sorry but I don't recall the tsb number.

I have mine disconnected right now due to steel bumper and that’s how they are when there isn’t anything connected. Maybe check connections?
