I know I don't have the desirable taco, just a stock 4 banger with an access cab, couldn't afford much more than that.

With that being said, anything cool I can do with it? Was thinking some lights for country roads at night...

What kind of bumper is that and how different does it drive compared to stock? About how many mpg does it get?

Older pic of my truck. (I've updated the interior alot and dipped my emblems all red since then...no good pics that I like as of yet)

Only thing I've done is put on 235's, new rims, vinyl wrapped the stripe and dipped the grill surround/emblems.

In total about $500-600 and it looks one hell of alot better.

Drive it 350k miles. The 2.7 and manual 5 speed transmission have an amazing track record for reliability. I am rolling like you, 2.7 base access cab and I love it. If you haven't already the tailgate security mods they are a must do at earliest convenience in my opinion. 3 bucks for a hose clamp and a couple washers and even you won't want to take it off if you need to.

Next personally on my list was intermittent wipers which are a plug and play 20 minute job and about $100. The stock fast and faster wiper control drives me nuts. Also doing cruise control on mine, which is a touch more work than the wipers, but not much. The access cabs are prewired for it, the hardest part is putting in the clutch switch, but that is still relatively easy. It is a 45 minute job and about $200 for the cruise and clutch switch.

Just to give you a few ideas out of the gate. I am curious about what mods you will end up with on it since we have the same truck as far as I can tell. Mods are my crack.

Well that makes the cruise control a 20 minute job and $40 cheaper if you want to do it. I told my girlfriend I will teach her how to drive it if she wants, but she hasn't taken me up on it haha. The trick to the automatics is make sure you change the fluid at the recommended intervals, I think its 40k but not positive. Also might want to consider a trans cooler if you are going to tow a lot with it. Which reminds me, a trailer hitch and wiring is an easy 2 hour $200 mod.

I had a first gen 4 cylinder Tacoma and I put a front two inch receiver hitch on it. It was great for mounting bike racks out of the way up front, push boats in tight places, mounting a bumper guard when not in use and hanging a spare tired or two for off roading. It makes a great place to mount a receiver hitch winch and I welded up a stand to mount a long 17 foot canoe on that and the racks over the back. I am in the process of looking for one for my newer truck but my needs have changed. It was a very useful add on that few ever consider.

Is that a 4 cylinder crew cab? If so those things are like unicorns.

Cruise control has been added, I got it for $23! I am going to put in the backup cam soon. Just picked up a bakflip cover used last night, will be adding a lock to the tailgate, maybe a power lock.

That is funny I was typing about the backup camera as you posted. I just checked mine and it is prewired for it. Another very practical relatively cheap mod that costs big bucks from a dealer. I called my local dealer and they wanted $700 for the oem camera no install or anything else and they had no clue about adding it to one that came without.

I'm on Amazon now looking at the options.

They told me 650 for the part, 160 for the cruise lever. Gonna have to hit up a junk yard one of these days to look for some more power options lol

Toyota just makes it too easy. I guess they figure there aren't too many people like us out there. There are 2 main options I see on Amazon. They are in the 180-250 range. Probably what I'll end up using.

I went ahead and ordered the one from camera source. Unfortunately it has to be run to the harness under the bed but that's only another 10 minutes. I'll let you know how it works out. 225 delivered. I wish we had a pick a part junk yard around here, probably could have done all these mods for under $100.
