Depends on what the single points pitch capability is. There comes a point where the pitch is too deep and will shank out on a smaller cutter. We use Harvey tool and they tell you the pitch range on the website.

Quick little government job friday afternoon before holidays.

Drain plugs fell out of my dads superjet while trailering so whiped up a couple new ones.

the milling op for this was 1 tool with a 36 second cycle time

Horizontals with a pallet pool are just so amazing. Little lean factories. Are you using it to just blast tons of the same part out or a whole suite of programs?

Currently planning on 3-4 of the pallets running the same job. Will probably run some other stuff if this job ever cools down

Spent a lot of time on the mini mill the last week trying to make a gizmo for a friend going to SEMA. Don’t think I’m going to finish it in time. :( ran in to lots of small problems that “necessitated” several side projects. First one is I need to make a sacrificial plate for machining really thin stuff. I hope to make that one today. Second is a vice for holding thin stuff that needs to be faced. I could glue but I want stuff to end up really flat and parallel so letting twist/warp out of the stock seems important. Came up with a design for a plate-like vice that made from a Saunders pallet, some little jaws from mitee bite and tapered washers from a Saunders modvice. That meant cutting a taper on the mill and that led to some head scratching on how to indicate or probe in the part when it’s at a funny angle. So third mini side project: an indicatable angled parallel…. Worked pretty good! The top and side are a known distance from the “corner” edge…

But then taking my second 6” vice off I found a ton of rust between it and the fixture plate. fucking rust. Anyway… Next up is the sacrificial thin part plate. And then back to making the actual thing I’m trying to make!.

Here’s the vice all put together:

This thing drops on my fixture plate in seconds. The slots let me adjust to hold different size stock and then the mitee bites do the clamping.

Didn’t get the other fixture plate done but I made the 4 toe clamps that go with it. Made em out of some A2 steel I had lying around… never milled that stuff before - cuts great! Next I’m going to try some 4140…

    And here’s my mini-thin-part-semi-sacrificial-fixture….

also gave the thin facing vice a try and ran into a little problem. My aluminum carriers for the mitee bite clamps have too much flex. Need to remake in 4140!

Wondering what a 12" long bottom die, with a .875" opening at 80 degrees would run.

Post a pic! I assume a relief groove in the bottom of the “V” would be ok? If so up to how wide?

No pic to post, this is utilizing the pythagorean theorem to find the best opening to use within the tonnage needed.

.675" opening would be perfect but that'd require much more tonnage I don't have and I'm not yet about to make my own press; too much work atm

I get it! I’d be happy to make this for ya -I’m sure I’ll have something you could plasma cut for me someday ha ha!) the question is do I need to buy a tapered endmill to get 80deg with the smallest flat or groove at the bottom or is a bigger groove ok… ie, big enough that I could use the square endmill (that I have) to cut the 80deg walls. Do you have a good source for 4140?
