For as little as you'll use it, the Crossfire Pro is more than fine.

I'm making parts I'm often selling without issue.

    No problem!

Some people gatekeep, others share what they know.

I'll choose the latter of the two.

Don't need to use them anytime soon but I'm excited to try them out.

    Fine cut consumables.

@Kwikvette you're going to want a different shield than that one. One like this: https://bakersgas.com/products/hypertherm-220948
Also, try a standard swirl ring vs the special fine cut one and experiment which works better. I personally find the regular one works better with the fine cut consumables and keeps me from needing as many special components when switching around between consumables.

I did mean to get the shielded deflector - this was my fault for not checking the part number because I'm aware of the two types, but chalked it up to a cheap purchase.

If you didn't catch the ordeal with my table, the end result was free consumables from Hypertherm, paired with Baker's Gas giving me a discount on their consumables as well. I took a chance and ordered finecut at a lower-than-sale price cost. When I saw the invoice, I just said I'll buy the shielded deflector next time.

Two members stated no difference in consumable life though?

But as far as the swirl ring, you aren't the first person I heard that from. Many say the regular swirl ring works better for them, others say the fine cut works well.

    I'll experiment like you suggested.

Do you use that shield even if you don't have an ohmic sensor? That one is listed for ohmic, but can it be used without the ohmic retaining cap?

The shielded and non-shielded deflector can be used on either retaining cap without issue.

It's why I thought he placed the shielded cap in my invoice, since I'm doing mechanized cutting.

But 2 members already confirmed last night that they saw no difference in consumable life between shielded and non-shielded.

The consumables chart shows two different shields for mechanized fine cut. One with ohmic and one without. The non-ohmic is what you show, but Relentless Fab referenced the ohmic shield. I don’t think you use an ohmic sensor with your torch, I do not.

    I'll rephrase -

You can use a shielded deflector, on any retaining cap whether it's ohmic or not.

There's one or two break-downs that imply you must use an ohmic cap with the shielded deflector, which further implies the non-ohmic cap is used with the unshielded deflector.

You can mix and match either, and there is no issue using the ohmic retaining cap even if your table doesn't use ohmic sensing (both yours and mine don't).

I just meant, I have an unshielded deflector, and meant to buy a shielded one. Outside of that, nothing else changes between consumable types.

The Ohmic shield can be used with or without the feature being utilized, my original table did not use ohmic sensing, my second plasma table does. I used the same shield for both, I find it preferable for the added protection of the nozzle regardless.

As for retaining caps, they're identical aside from the added crimped on ring with tab for connecting the ohmic sensing wire on that version.

This was my reasoning as well for wanting the shielded deflector.

On the usage of finecut, it works great for smaller kerf and tight detail parts.
While they rate it for material 1/8" and thinner, I've even pushed it and have created settings profiles for 3/16" steel and it produces some very nice cuts with reasonable lifespan even when cranked up to 50A.

Was going to ask, what kind of speeds are you looking at on 16 gauge.

I don't recall off the top of my head, but the Hypertherm 'Best quality' settings seem to be pretty close on most materials. I adjust a bit and save where I feel I'm getting the best on my specific machine but as a baseline they work pretty good. On 16ga I'd probably use their low speed settings chart and dial the plasma back to 30a, I'd still expect them to be spec-ing around 125-150 ipm

14ga and thicker is what I'm usually cutting, I don't have much experience with thinner material

I owe the guy that sold me the table a 4’ diameter sign. That is my first production order if you will. I made a couple plates for my skid steer that you helped me unscrew on F360. Currently I am trying to put together a water table storage setup for 65 gallons.

Shiiiiit I forgot how much water your table would be using.

What are you gonna use for your rust inhibitor? Borax if I recall?

I have 20:1 chemical to add and going to coat the slats with Cold Galvanizing Compound.

Is that galvanizing compound going to cause issues with fumes? I know it’s a no-no to weld galvanized and have to assume blasting it with a torch isn’t much better.
