    Sounds quick and convenient.

    I didn't want to weld it up, or even bolt it. But here's how it used to be.

    Well it only took 5 tries to get here after I sorted the ram height. I’m not sure Langmuir has figured out the best process exactly.

    I started with stock variables out of fusion for 12 ga steel, except thickness. Trying to make a 90* with a 2” flange.

    K factor .44, back gage set to 1.910, bend radius of T (.104) was a bit off. 2.020” flange and 88*.

    But using a little overbend, send cut send’s k factor (.34), and a measured bend radius (.144), I got the flange dead on! 2.000.

    upload_2024-11-1_9-6-56.jpg

    Now to try across the grain.

    Man, that .02" would've been good enough for me as long as I made whatever hole or slot on the flange big enough for that tolerance :rofl:

    That's badass.

    @zippsub9

    Since I don't have the Sync system, this is how I keep my "cartridges" separated.

    Retaining caps and electrodes are the same between both, but the left side uses the finecut swirl ring, finecut deflector, and finecut nozzle.

    Right side using mechanized shielded deflector, standard swirl ring, and standard nozzle.

    20241101_112440.jpg

    Easier to keep track of pierce count now instead of just swapping the nozzle, swirl ring, and deflector.

    30 on the left set, 840 on the right set.

    And also, the difference in cut quality on 16 gauge.

    150ipm, 32 amps, 110psi to the machine with finecut consumables -

    150ipm, 35 amps, 110psi to the machine with regular consumables -

    I did perform a cut on a much larger piece at the book setting of 240ipm, but I wrapped it up already. No pics.

    I appreciate these notes. I am deep in the cleaning out of the table phase right now. I ordered fine cut consumables but not name brand. I did not order the fine cut swirl ring. I thought it was best to avoid it? Anyway, I really appreciate these specs. The fine cut looks great. I don’t have sync either so I am going to segregate the same.

    What brand did you go with?

    My friend sent me some Chinese variants she uses on her Hypertherm 45XP and says they do well. Just a bit short on consumable life but for the cost, she doesn't mind replacing them often.

    Sometimes they'll run her 150 pierces, and other times 400 pierces.

    Not sure if they keep the same name on Amazon or advertise from multiple companies. But not bad for $40.

    I want to make sure what I am getting into first then I will get Hypertherm brand. I screwed up and left a default 40ipm cut one time. The cut looked great but cooked my consumables pretty bad.

    If you get even 200 pierces per set, then you're good to go especially at that price.

    I have a set number of pierces per consumable that I expect to get, which helps me determine the cost to add per set of parts I'm cutting, and when I need to replace them.

    Just a heads up for you to do the same once you start running production.

    Stupid question, but what is the easiest way you found to keep pierce count? I kind of wish Langmuir would add a counter onto there Fireware program.

    Firecontrol does, this is how I determined I had 840. I pulled them at 700 pierces, and reset the timer when I put in the finecut set.

    20241101_163202.jpg

    Then I pulled off the finecut, put these back on, and reset the timer again just adding the new count to the old count.

    Also, I understand wanting to use cheaper consumables (at least from the get go) but the biggest difference with cheap vs brand name, your orifice won't burn out as quickly meaning your cuts will have the same edge quality from start to finish.

    Again, just cut these today and they're only 160 away from 1,000 pierces.

    Realize I never answered this.

    So I did read about some people using the regular one over on Plasmaspyder. But there are plenty of people using the finecut without issue as well.

    I guess I can follow-up on this after I test it on other material like 1/8" if I get an order for some dino's. At $11 for a Hypertherm brand swirl ring, I couldn't say no.

    I want to be able to make sheet metal origami so I need flange length to be tight!

    So far it seems like if you have a bunch of stock cut from the same sheet and have a “with” and “across” grain program set up, it will bend pretty repeatably. So I imagine I’ll be cutting a coupon with a part, calibrating the bend programs on the coupon, and then running a part. At least that’s the theory.

    @zippsub9

    Now at 978 pierces and check out the edge quality still.

    20241102_104742.jpg

    20241102_104751.jpg

    And the consumables themselves.

    20241102_105235.jpg

    20241102_105242.jpg

    It's fair to say, I'll change them out at 1,000. Another 100 pierces or so won't hurt but that'll be the average pierce count I'll expect.

    @Zebinator

    No CNC but I try to be as precise each time as I can :D

    20241102_112138.jpg

    Odd bend angles with an angled bend line is harder to replicate I think (manually).
