Not having the tube in front of me I can`t recall is that a snug fit ??

What is the ID of your 2.5" in tube

If you have reason to sleeve I would be using 2"x8"x1/4" wall tube

1/2" holes works on the Top

 

1.5" 14gauge fits very well in 2" 1/8" wall.

Trailer hitch pins are 5/8" diameter and are cheap.

Hope this what info you were looking for.

Any steel supplier will have scraps you can test fit.

 

It should be a snug fit since i got tubing. 2.5- (1/4 * 2) should give me 2.

I already had the 2inch on hand and only needed the 18in of 2.5 hence why i stayed that sizing.

Just bought the 2.5 today and havent gotten home yet

 

Its a snug fit. Forgot about the seam weld inside the 2.5in

Ground a channel and beat it on there. Not as far as i had planned but this still has 5inches of sleeved tube

 

It may be easier to gouge the inner square tube to accommodate the weld seam instead. I did the same thing on a trailer build but used a Reese hitch extension piece unfinished without any seam welded internally.

 

Thats how i did it.

 

A long carbide burr will knock that weld seam down.

Yes it is. We bought it about a month ago since we have an acre to mow. Im not good at operating it but the fiance is.

I need to clean up/widen a hole in 1/4 steel. Anyone have suggestions for dremel or? Its about 2 1/8 right now, need 2 1/4.

 

The Wrights are really nice machines and also a good company from what I read.

A selection of carbide burrs and a die grinder is handy for a lot of jobs, a light pass around the hole would gain you the 1/8" you need.

Are you planning gussets where your Towing Coupler attaches .

I am curious why your extending the trailer tongue I am hoping weight is not a factor in what your hauling.

 

where the coupler attaches at the end of the new 2.5in tube? no i dont see a need for gussets.

just extending cause its too close to the hitch ball and makes backing up annoying. i tow it with my car and truck. it only hauls my dirtbike or mulch pretty much.

I actually thought it would be corrected 6-7 post down the road. I guess I was off a little.

 

Not too shabby. New fluxcore wire made it weld much smoother again. 1/4 rod was something i had sitting around for quite a while too

 

That’s gotta be the strongest part of the trailer now! Next time you may want to simply add a new, longer tongue. They build those things barely on the line between adequate and barely so. (I’ve owned several over the years and some of them weren’t suitable for the road after a few seasons in the salt of winter.)
Gotta love a new roll of wire in the welder. I ended up buying a new two pounder to replace the ten pounder that just wouldn’t feed right and it was like a whole different machine.
By the time I finished this hitch bar I was back in practice and had the welder dialed in. Went a bit overboard on the bead size and it’s not all pretty but it’ll hold for sure. Loads of penetration. Lots of spatter too as I’m using straight CO2.

 

Haha probably is. I wanted to do a spine down the trailer but steel seems to be priced pretty high still $20/ft. Had the 2inch already and the 1/4 rod (plus the 1/4 plate behind it) so i just bought the 18in of 2.5.

Hopefully i got it straight enough in there. Ha.

I dont think my welder is that great. Even with gas it was having trouble to run cleanly all the time. So i threw the old flux in this weekend (old old) and it ran better. So the new flux is quite a surprise.
